FreeFall Serves Up A Mischievous Three-Track EP ‘Ms Behave’!

FreeFall lands his debut EP on IN / ROTATION with a gripping three-track package of heart-pumping house music. Coming off of an uncaged collab alongside PVC (Purple Velvet Curatins) called ‘Jungle’, which brought out an exotic shade of four-on-the-floor to IN / ROTATION’s inaugural ‘Rotate’ compilation album last year, FreeFall is now ready to incite more musical mischief in the form of his ‘Ms. Behave’ EP. While the SoCal artist has built a reputation around shaping grittier grooves, FreeFall dives into a more polished sound this time around—namely on the Savannah Low-assisted tune with two variations sitting at the front and back of this package.

“Savannah and I have a long connection,” says FreeFall. “This is our third track now. When I approached the beginning of song writing, I had just the middle break and part of the drop, but I knew I needed a vocalist that could deliver an impactful message in the softest of ways and Savannah was the person that came to mind.”

From the get-go, her velvety vocal delivery cuts through the space, keeping you suspended on her every word. FreeFall compliments Low’s singing superbly, propping it up with luscious piano keys and gooey atmospherics. The sweet combination between her delicate tones and his heart-fluttering rhythm start to entangle themselves perfectly once the propulsive bassline starts to power through a thick glaze of dreamy guitar licks. It’s the kind of collaboration where their shared history and chemistry couldn’t be any more palpable.

On the second offering, “Get It,” FreeFall recruits the help of a revered master-of-ceremonies plucked straight from the storied streets of the L.A. drum & bass scene, MC Dino. The bars from this smooth operator ooze with confidence, adding a heightened level of hype to the beefy bass snarls and broken-beat fills sitting on opposite sides of the trap-tinged breakdown. Closing out the package is a special Late Night Drive Mix of “Ms. Behave,” which sees him promoting the piano melodies as a prominent player while working in a chunky bass house bassline to boot.

Based out of Los Angeles, FreeFall is the house music project fronted by the mastermind James Smith, who has been catching some serious air in recent years with an output that soars from his past playing guitar and previously cranking out gut-punching dubstep tunes. Bridging his affinity for low-end frequencies and fierce rock riffs, he’s found a nice little sweet spot on the house music spectrum that has allowed him to catch the attention of top-tier tastemakers in his lane, including Malaa, Kyle Watson, Dr Fresch, Oliver Heldens and more. He’s already made deep strides with previous releases on Armada Music, noir sur blanc, Stress, UV, and is fast becoming a solid name-drop for the IN / ROTATION crew.
