DeadlyNoiz reflects on creating a 60-minute opening mix for the opportunity to support Martin Garrix on his American tour

Long before DeadlyNoiz began producing his own music, he was watching Martin Garrix perform through festival livestreams and imagining where his own career could eventually take him. Earlier this year, that influence became part of one of his most personal projects when he created a 60-minute opening mix for the opportunity to support Garrix during his American tour. He was not selected for the slot, but the work behind the submission gave him the chance to test himself as a DJ, think carefully about how an opening set should progress and create something connected to an artist who has inspired him for years.

Creating the Martin Garrix American Tour Opening Mix

The competition invited DJs to submit a full one-hour mix that could be played before a Martin Garrix performance. For DeadlyNoiz, the challenge was not only choosing tracks that worked together, but understanding how the set needed to function at the beginning of the night. He had to gradually increase the pace, leave enough space for the headlining performance and make sure the mix still reflected his own musical direction.

Working within that brief changed the way he approached the full 60 minutes. Each transition needed to move the set forward, while the track order had to feel natural from the opening minutes through to the final selection. The process pushed him to think about the role of an opening artist and how to prepare a crowd without moving too quickly into music that would be more suitable later in the show.

Although DeadlyNoiz did not receive the opening slot, he remained proud of the final mix and decided to release it publicly. The submission allowed him to work with a clear performance setting in mind, improve how he builds longer sets and better understand the choices required when creating music for a specific place on a lineup.

How Martin Garrix Influenced DeadlyNoiz

Martin Garrix has been one of DeadlyNoiz’s biggest inspirations since his early introduction to electronic dance music. Garrix’s releases helped strengthen his interest in EDM, while his festival performances later encouraged him to begin producing music of his own. For years, he followed those performances through Ultra Music Festival livestreams and online videos, paying attention to the track selection, progression and way Garrix introduced his own productions during each set.

The Ultra Miami 2019 performance became especially important to him. Watching Garrix play the Ultra Music Festival Main Stage at night made DeadlyNoiz more certain about the goal he wanted to pursue. One of his biggest ambitions is to perform on that same stage during a night set and play his own music to people from different parts of the world.

Creating the tour opening mix gave him the opportunity to connect that long-term inspiration with his own work. It was no longer only about watching another artist perform and learning from those sets. He now had to make his own decisions, arrange a complete hour of music and show how he would approach the responsibility of opening a Martin Garrix show.

Experiencing His First Martin Garrix Shows

Following the competition, DeadlyNoiz attended both nights of the tour as part of the crowd. These were his first Martin Garrix shows, allowing him to experience in person the performances he had previously followed through livestreams and recorded videos. The music, visuals and full-scale production gave him a clearer understanding of the type of event he had created the mix for.

Attending both nights also added another personal connection to the submission. Although he was not performing before Garrix, he could see how the evening progressed and how the supporting music led into the headline set. The experience allowed him to reflect on his own mix while seeing the complete show from the audience’s perspective.

Most importantly, the two performances reminded him why Martin Garrix had influenced his decision to pursue electronic music. After years of watching his festival appearances online, hearing the tracks live brought that early inspiration back into focus and reinforced the goals DeadlyNoiz is continuing to work toward.

The mix may have begun as a competition entry, but it now represents a clear point in DeadlyNoiz’s development as a DJ and producer. It challenged him to create for a specific performance setting, strengthened the way he approaches longer sets and connected his current work with the artist who first encouraged him to take electronic music seriously. By releasing the mix, he is sharing the progress behind the submission and the ambition that continues beyond the end of the tour.

‘Like a G6’ Hits 1 Billion Spotify Streams

‘Like a G6’ hits 1 billion Spotify streams as KSHMR, Far East Movement and Dev celebrate the milestone

Released in 2010, ‘Like a G6’ became a huge global hit for Far East Movement, The Cataracs and Dev. The track reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three non-consecutive weeks at the top. Sixteen years later, it has now passed 1 billion streams on Spotify, with KSHMR marking the milestone on Instagram with the message “We made it to 1B.”

KSHMR’s Connection To ‘Like A G6’

When ‘Like a G6’ was released in 2010, KSHMR was still producing as Niles Hollowell-Dhar, one half of The Cataracs alongside David Singer-Vine. The duo produced the record for Far East Movement, while Dev provided the vocal that became one of its most recognisable elements.

Her part originated from ‘Booty Bounce’, which The Cataracs had produced with her earlier that year. They later used part of that vocal in ‘Like a G6’, helping create the version that went on to become a worldwide hit. The record gave Niles Hollowell-Dhar one of his biggest commercial successes years before he launched KSHMR.

His reaction to the Spotify milestone now brings that earlier part of his career back into focus. Long before the KSHMR project began, ‘Like a G6’ had already connected his production work to one of the biggest crossover records of the early 2010s.

‘Like A G6’ Became A Global No. 1

Following its release, ‘Like a G6’ climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and held the position for three non-consecutive weeks. The achievement also made Far East Movement the first Asian American group to top the chart.

The track came at a time when electronic production, hip-hop and pop were increasingly crossing into the mainstream. Its success introduced Far East Movement, The Cataracs and Dev to a much wider audience, while also giving each artist one of the biggest records of their careers.

That success led into very different paths afterward. Far East Movement continued releasing internationally, Dev developed her solo career, and Niles Hollowell-Dhar later left The Cataracs before launching KSHMR.

More than 16 years after its original release, ‘Like a G6’ has now passed 1 billion Spotify streams. The milestone adds another major achievement to the track’s history while bringing one of KSHMR’s earliest major records back into focus.

Mau P launches Baddest Behavior Records as his event brand expands into a new label for emerging dance music artists

Mau P has grown to become one of the most prominent names arcorss the electronic dance music scene. His rise has included major releases, international shows and his own Baddest Behavior event series. First introduced as a way for him to curate lineups and host events under his own banner, Baddest Behavior soon became part of his touring calendar. Mau P is now taking the name into recorded music with Baddest Behavior Records, his first record label. The imprint gives artists and music he already supports a direct route to release.

Why Mau P Launched Baddest Behavior Records

As more unreleased music began reaching Mau P from producers, starting a label became something he began considering publicly. He has spoken about wanting to give other artists the type of opportunities that helped him earlier in his career. That became especially relevant when he heard records he believed deserved wider support.

That intention was central to the announcement. Mau P described Baddest Behavior Records as being “for the culture, for the scene.” He also directed followers to the label’s new private Instagram account through his Stories. The page began accepting followers as part of the rollout. The first artists and releases have not yet been announced, so the label’s musical direction will become clearer once its catalogue begins.

Baddest Behavior Was Already Growing Beyond Individual Shows

By the time Mau P announced the record label, Baddest Behavior already had several years of events behind it. He has hosted editions in New York, Miami, Denver and Los Angeles. A residency at Pacha Ibiza also gave the series a regular presence on the island.

Those events have allowed Mau P to choose the artists playing alongside him and place the music he supports within his own lineups. Plans for Baddest Behavior to cover more than live events appeared well before the label announcement.

In 2024, Mau P B.V. filed a trademark application covering record label services, music publishing, recording, live events and DJ services. The filing showed that recorded music already formed part of the wider plans for Baddest Behavior.

Since breaking through with ‘Drugs From Amsterdam’ in 2022, Mau P has released through Repopulate Mars, Defected, Diynamic and Insomniac Records. He has also regularly supported IDs and unreleased tracks throughout his sets. Baddest Behavior Records now gives some of that music the possibility of becoming official releases with Mau P directly supporting them, while the first records will begin to show which artists and sounds he wants the label to represent.

New EDM Friday Oct 9 brings new music from Marlon Hoffstadt, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Funk Tribu, Chase & Status, Dillon Francis, and more.

New EDM Friday Oct 9 brings together new singles, album releases, collaborations, and remixes covering techno, trance, bass music, drum and bass, house, and electronic dance. From Marlon Hoffstadt and David Guetta with Caught Up to Armin van Buuren and Funk Tribu with Nirvana, WÓTIE with Never Let You Go, SKILAH with GOMF BUT LOUDER, Chase & Status with Generic Everything, Dillon Francis and Oaks with Fall, and Effin with Heartbeats, these are the tracks you should not miss on this week’s New EDM Friday.

Marlon Hoffstadt & David Guetta – Caught Up

Marlon Hoffstadt and David Guetta link up on Caught Up, a new collaboration through Capitol Records. Marlon Hoffstadt said he grew up listening to David Guetta and called the collaboration “absolutely mental.” He also said they made the track earlier this year, just before Ultra Miami. Meanwhile, the single connects Marlon Hoffstadt’s trance-heavy style with David Guetta’s global dance reach. With Caught Up, the pair bring one of the week’s biggest collaborations into New EDM Friday Oct 9.

Armin van Buuren & Funk Tribu – Nirvana

Armin van Buuren and Funk Tribu team up on Nirvana, a new Armada Music single. The track connects Armin van Buuren’s trance roots with Funk Tribu’s faster club style. It also follows Armin van Buuren’s recent A State of Trance Ibiza 2026 mix album. For Funk Tribu, Nirvana places him beside one of trance music’s most established names. With Nirvana, both artists bring a direct trance entry into New EDM Friday Oct 9.

WÓTIE – Never Let You Go

WÓTIE turns a deeply personal story into Never Let You Go, a melodic dance and progressive house single. The song reflects his years-long separation from his daughter and the hope he held onto through that period. He wrote it in 2019 during a difficult time in Brazil, with lyrics drawn from loss, distance, and love. Musically, the track pairs warm male vocals, emotional piano, organic elements, and a euphoric drop. With Never Let You Go, WÓTIE brings one of the week’s most personal tracks into New EDM Friday Oct 9.

SKILAH – GOMF BUT LOUDER

SKILAH returns with GOMF BUT LOUDER, a tech house rework of her September single GOMF. The new version takes the original into faster and harder territory, with dark production, heavy bass, and her own vocals still at the center. It follows major festival appearances at Lost Lands, Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Breakaway Music Festival, Foam Wonderland, and Ubbi Dubbi. At 23, the Minnesota-born, Los Angeles-based artist has also passed 3 million followers across TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. With GOMF BUT LOUDER, SKILAH brings a harder tech house cut into New EDM Friday Oct 9.

Chase & Status – Generic Everything (album)

Chase & Status release Generic Everything, a 10-track album through 2RUFF Records and Warner Music UK. The album pushes against algorithm-led creative sameness, while drawing from drum and bass, rave, rap, and soundsystem culture. It features J Hus, Little Simz, Skrillex, Giggs, D Double E, Blanco, IRAH, Col3trane, and more. One of its biggest moments is Essa Ta Quente, a Brazilian funk-leaning track with Skrillex. With Generic Everything, Chase & Status bring a full album into New EDM Friday Oct 9.

Dillon Francis, Oaks – Fall

Dillon Francis and Oaks release Fall, a melodic single out via Monstercat and Broke Records. The track centers on an expressive vocal topline, soaring melodies, and the feeling of finally letting go. Dillon Francis said the song was written for their significant others and came from a studio session where everyone was writing from the same place. It follows a major 2026 for Dillon Francis, including Stagecoach, the Impact Award at the EDM Awards, and the Dillstradamus co-headline tour with Flosstradamus. With Fall, Dillon Francis and Oaks add a more emotional dance release to New EDM Friday Oct 9.

Effin – Heartbeats (Album)

Effin presents Heartbeats, a 12-track album centered on love, memory, nostalgia, and detailed sampling. Across the project, the Nashville producer uses 1950s film dialogue, forgotten live recordings, jazz flutes, vocal manipulation, and vintage-inspired textures. The album follows his earlier singles What’s In Your Heart, Forever & Always, and Plus One, each giving a different part of the project’s emotional world. It also follows his biggest touring year so far, with appearances at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Lost Lands, Breakaway, VELD, and more. With Heartbeats, Effin brings a conceptual bass album into New EDM Friday Oct 9.
