MoBlack Reworks Djanka Diabaté’s ‘Mounkera’
MoBlack reworks Djanka Diabaté’s Mounkera, placing her original vocal at the centre of a new Afro House release
Released on October 16, 2026 through MoBlack Records, Mounkera sees MoBlack return to an earlier song from Djanka Diabaté and bring it into an Afro House setting. Her vocal remains central throughout, with percussion, low-end and electronic textures added around it. The release follows a year in which MoBlack has continued working closely with African artists and recordings while expanding his own catalogue through the label.

The Voice Behind Mounkera
For MoBlack, the starting point was Djanka Diabaté’s voice. He explained that the original immediately stayed with him because of the emotion and cultural identity carried through her performance. “There was something timeless, raw and deeply emotional about the original,” he said when discussing why he wanted to work with the song.
Instead of simply placing the original vocal over a new instrumental, MoBlack developed the production around it. The arrangement leaves space for Diabaté’s voice while percussion and electronic elements gradually enter around it, allowing the vocal to remain the main focus from beginning to end. The extended version runs for just over five minutes at 120 BPM and is listed as Afro House.
Connecting The Original With MoBlack’s Current Work
The original Mounkera comes from Djanka Diabaté’s earlier catalogue, giving the new release a history that reaches well beyond 2026. That background also connects naturally with MoBlack’s own relationship with African music. After spending around a decade living in Ghana, he continued incorporating those influences into his work as a producer, DJ and label head.
That connection has also been visible across his recent releases. In 2026, MoBlack worked on music involving established African artists including Salif Keïta, placing Mounkera within a wider period of projects centred on African vocals and songwriting.
With Mounkera, MoBlack keeps the original vocal intact while giving the song a new Afro House production. The release gives Djanka Diabaté’s performance a different setting without pushing it behind the production, which is exactly what MoBlack said he wanted from the beginning.
