The Cross Records Returns With A Future Focused Perspective And Fresh Musical Outlook
The Cross Records makes a return maintaining its artist-first approach under the leadership of Matt Smallwood.
After a 2 year post-covid hiatus, The Cross is back. A joint label venture between prestigious management company Club Class, home to MEDUZA, James Hype, GENESI and Tita Lau among others, and major label powerhouse, Island Records. Now, under the guidance of Matt Smallwood, former Head of A&R at Toolroom Records and now Head Of Music at Club Class, the future looks bright for The Cross as Matt promises to ‘create a fresh and exciting platform for both established and up-and-coming artists with a view to really elevate emerging talent.’
The rebranding marks an exciting new chapter for The Cross as the label sets out to deliver a dynamic and diverse spectrum of House music, spanning everything from radio-friendly anthems to club bangers. When asked ‘why now?’ On the relaunch, Matt said ‘It’s an incredibly exciting time for dance music and with me joining the company at the start of the year, it feels like the perfect time. There’s a wealth of passion, experience, and talent around the label, and the whole team is buzzing to be releasing music again.”
Senior A&R from Island Records, Callum Ross added ‘I have formed an amazing working relationship with Kev and Serg from Club Class over the last 5 years and it’s very exciting to be now working with Matt Smallwood on the re-launch of The Cross Records. I have known and respected Matt as an A&R for a long time. He has incredible attention to detail as well as exceptional relationships within Dance Music. The Cross and IslandEMI teams have built great synergy over the years, but this feels like the very start of something great for their label.’
The first release of this new era landed on July 25th, from Grammy nominated producers Bag Raiders. Check it out below.
