What Happened To: Alesso, Steve Angello x Sebastian Ingrosso – Eclipse
We all know Swedish House Mafia have taken yet another hiatus, while Alesso is working harder than ever to deliver the best of his revamped sound. Let’s take a trip back to 2012 when Sebastian Ingrosso‘s radio show Refune Radio was still kicking hard.
Sebastian announced on his VIP Room section of Refune Radio that he has a new track lined up for release together with his fellow Swedish House Mafia member, Steve Angello, and the rising star on the progressive house scene, Alesso. With joint efforts, they created ‘Why Am I Doing This’, or as fans labeled it later, ‘Eclipse’. They were playing the track all over the dancefloors yet no one knew it was made by the aforementioned acts. The track has been made in Los Angeles, the same city Seb and Alesso‘s oldtimer ‘Calling’ together with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic was concocted.
Let’s talk about the track itself. ‘Why Am I Doing This’ has nostalgia written all over it. The track begins with a 27-second long buildup, which ultimately introduces the first drop. The drop is an electro house one with some signature sounds in it, with the gritty bass and a dirty synth. After the end of the first drop, the break introduces itself with aplomb, accompanying the listener with progressive house plucks and a lush melody. Shortly after the break the second buildup begins playing and the second and the final drop starts playing with more energy than its predecessor with slightly more percussion.
‘Eclipse’ stayed an ID ever after with no new information about it whatsoever. There are no official announcements regarding its release or even its existence from any of the 3 parties so it is expected that it will remain a dead ID forever. We are yet to see what do the Swedish House Mafia have in store for us since their last public appearance as a group was at Creamfields 2019. So, let’s remain patient and I, in particular, am certain that they will deliver.
