Following 2 years of success for Martin Garrix with Spinnin Records, he would part ways with them and create his own record label called STMPD RCRDS where he would reveal ‘Lions in the Wild’ to the world as the second release on STMPD RCRDS. Alongside the British DJ duo of Third Party, this amazing new track would be created and fast become a fan favourite that was belted out at festivals and clubs across the world. ‘Lions in the Wild’ also appeared on the ‘Tomorrowland 2016: The Elixir of Life’ album, establishing it as one of the best songs of the year.
At Ultra Music Festival 2016, ‘Lions in the Wild’ would receive its debut as the opening track to Martin Garrix’s set with an epic orchestral intro that was a highlight of his set. The track also debuted the incredible official vocals of Max McElligott that elevated the emotion of the track and excitement amidst the crowd. From the very start of the track the crowd were sent into a state of euphoria and by the end of the track there was huge anticipation for its release that would come only a few months later.
This would be the first collaboration between Martin Garrix and Third ≡ Party with their only other being their recent release ‘Carry You’ which follows in the footsteps of the rapturous progressive house sound of ‘Lions in the Wild.’ The pumping melody in the chorus is incredibly impactful, maintaining the orchestral feel of the verses and projecting the grandeur of an orchestra through the power of synths.
‘Lions in the Wild’ stands as one of the songs that really set the foundations for the style of music from both Martin Garrix and Third ≡ Party that they’re still using today. Songs such as their collaboration ‘Carry You’ and Third ≡ Party’s most recent release ‘Believe’ are perfect examples of this longstanding style that still sounds incredible 8 years on from its roots and will continue to sound amazing for years to come.
