BLOND:ISH And Bye Bye Plastic Drop Cups Made From BACTERIA at ADE 2023!

This pas week, DJ, producer and eco-warrior BLOND:ISH and her non-profit Bye Bye Plastic, unveil the latest innovation on their mission to remove single-use plastics from the music industry – a completely reusable, bioplastic cup made from BACTERIA. In partnership with solution-oriented event collective Monkey Project and the PHA production experts at Happy Cups, this circular event innovation will globally premier on the fossil-free dancefloor of the BLOND:ISH & Friends showcase (which sold out in less than 3 hours) at A’Dam Loft during Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE).

“It wasn’t easy, but the Plastic Free Party is finally here! With Bye Bye Plastic, we always wanted to help take care of nature starting with single use plastic first. Plastic never helped, so we’re doing our part, especially this year at ADE,” shared BLOND:ISH. “With help from our friends at Monkey Projects and Happy Cups, we’re saying bye bye to fossil fuels and saying hello to PHA cups. These cups are made from bacteria and are way better than bioplastic cups. And the best part, we don’t need to do anything to break them down. We’re making little steps, but these steps are making a big change for our festivals, starting at my parties!”

BLOND:ISH & Friends aims to shed light on the positive impact of PHA cups for both the party and the planet to deliver a night that is not only musically spectacular but also environmentally groundbreaking. Harnessing the newest technology in sustainable innovation and the power of nature, the circular cups available to guests are produced using the fossil-free bioplastic PHBH (a sub-type of PHA) and naturally-occuring raw materials that replicate petroleum-based plastics in a planet-friendly way. PHAs are a new type of bioplastic family derived from living bacteria present in organic resources, such as plants and – in the case of these cups – used cooking oil instead of virgin (palm) oil. PHAs are entirely bio-based, meaning under natural conditions these microbes will be effortlessly dissolved, digested and regenerated in any environment, including the ocean.

Blending sonic vision with a passion for the environment, all partners involved in this initiative will be present to celebrate this debut and to show the festival industry that partying without fossil fuels is the FUTURE of festivals. The showcase will be headlined by BLOND:ISH and will feature an epic lineup of world-renowned DJ talent including sets from Franky Rizardo, LP Giobbi and Who Made Who.

“Debuting these circular PHA cups during ADE is a massive evolution in our journey to change dancefloors for the better,” said Camille Guitteau, co-founder & M.D. at Bye Bye Plastic Foundation. “In everything we do, we uncompromisingly work to address two main topics: the single-use and the fossil-fuel plastic culture. This innovation perfectly solves both, while providing a seamless, unchanged experience for dancers & event organizers alike. With this ground-breaking innovation we’re well on track to completely build the #PlasticFreeParty – a milestone that could not have been reached without the cooperation of equally eco-minded trail-blazers, like Happy Cups of course, and dedicated event collective Monkey Project. The plastic-free dancefloor is here to share today, and we know you’re going to love it.”

“By introducing these revolutionary circular PHA cups in collaboration with Happy Cups, Bye Bye Plastic, and BLOND:ISH at the Monkey Project ADE event, we are taking a momentous stride in transforming our industry for the better,” stated Cisel Cakiroglu, the Executive Project Manager of Monkey Project & Founder of No Planet No Party. “Our unwavering commitment is to revolutionize the industry’s excessive consumption habits and explore ingenious ways to contribute to society and the environment by eradicating plastic from our events and promoting reforestation. I extend my gratitude to Camille for introducing me to this groundbreaking technology. From the very instant I learned about it, I knew these cups were destined to grace our events. Today, we celebrate the launch of these remarkable cups, turning our vision into a reality!”

Happy Cups is a Dutch producer revolutionizing the live event experience one reusable cup at a time. Manufactured at a plant in the Netherlands that operates entirely on renewable energy, at the start of 2023 Happy Cups switched there PHA from a sugar base to a recycled cooking oil base. This to stop using valuable food that is needed to feed the world. Happy Cups uses PHBH (a type of PHA bioplastic) to create products that are biodegradable, compostable and recyclable, offering a triple-bottom-line solution for reducing waste and the environmental impact of music industry. Beyond their reusable purposes and proven recycling properties, these PHA cups also deliver a stronger, safer and more reliable option for event-goers, unlike their traditional counterparts that can splinter into sharp bits. Better for the party, better for the planet.

From Happy Cups, “Debuting these circular PHA cups during ADE is a massive evolution on our journey to change dancefloors for the better.”

A champion of the environment spearheading a movement to change the music industry for the better, BLOND:ISH is no stranger to pushing boundaries to spark a revolution that will protect our planet and our dancefloors for generations to come. During last year’s conference, Bye Bye Plastics and vinyl R&D experts at Evolution Music and DeepGrooves (the greenest pressing plant in activity) debuted the world’s VERY FIRST biodegradable, PHA Vinyl #PlasticFreeParty at W Amsterdam. Delivering the future, without compromising sound quality, the 14-track vinyl (released on BLOND:ISH’sABRACADABRA) marked a historic moment in music history and a groundbreaking step in the right direction to end harmful PVC vinyl production practices that are destroying biodiversity, depleting resources & impacting the health of both people and planet.
