High-Tech Minimal DJ Boris Brejcha sits on a sofa holding his distinctive Joker mask during an announcement about his retirement and final tour.

Boris Brejcha has announced plans to bring his iconic ‘The Joker’ era to a close after 2028, revealing a farewell tour titled Last Chapter: Becoming The Joker and confirming that 2027 will be his final year performing at festivals.

Why is Boris Brejcha Retiring?

He explains in an Instagram post that this decision does not mean he is ill nor is he losing passion for the music he creates. The farewell is merely closing the chapter on something amazing and ultimately preserving a happy ending.

“My papa always said you should stop when things are at their best”

This could also mark the beginning of a new journey for Boris. A notable detail within his post points out that this retirement may be exclusively for “The Joker” persona. If this is true, we could be looking at a brand new project that would explore deeper into his musical background.

Boris Brejcha’s Farewell Tour:

The retirement won’t be taking place immediately. Brejcha will be hosting as many shows as possible in an effort to say thank you to all the fans who have supported him throughout the years. He also mentioned that 2027 will be his final year performing at festivals.

The shows and location are yet to be announced but he has officially named the farewell tour as “Last Chapter: Becoming The Joker“. At the end of 2028, the final chapter of Boris Brejcha’s time as The Joker will come to a conclusion.

 The Legacy:

Boris Brejcha became the leading pioneer of the High-Tech Minimal subgenre of dance music. He developed the sound to match his own unique sonic identity. It was a result of combining minimal groove, euphoric melodies, and the synths of progressive house/ trance.

The story behind the mask started during his debut performance at Brazil’s Universo Paralello Festival in 2006. It drew inspiration from the extravagant designs featured in the Carnival of Venice. The performance marked his first time ever coming face to face with a massive crowd and we have since seen his success truly blossom.

With 2027 marking the final year before his farewell tour, fans will have just two years left to experience a masterclass in high-tech minimal from “The Joker”. These shows will serve as the ultimate goodbye for Boris and his beloved fans.
