David Guetta’s Club Can’t Handle Me enters Spotify’s billion-stream club 16 years after becoming a global dance hit

Sixteen years after it first became a global hit, David Guetta’s Club Can’t Handle Me has officially passed 1 billion streams on Spotify. Released in 2010 with Flo Rida, the track became one of the biggest dance-pop crossovers of that period, topping charts in multiple countries and reaching the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 in the United States. Its latest Spotify achievement follows years of continued listening well beyond its original chart run. Club Can’t Handle Me now becomes another billion-stream track within David Guetta’s catalogue.

From the Step Up 3D Soundtrack to Global Charts

Originally released on June 28, 2010, Club Can’t Handle Me served as the lead single from the Step Up 3D soundtrack. David Guetta and Frédéric Riesterer handled the production, pairing Flo Rida’s verses with the house sound that was becoming increasingly prominent across mainstream pop at the beginning of the decade.

What started as a soundtrack single quickly developed into a major international release. The track topped the charts in the UK and several other countries, while reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. By the end of 2013, it had sold around 3 million copies in the US, extending its success well beyond the film it was originally created for.

The collaboration also arrived during an important period for both artists. David Guetta had already expanded his international audience through releases such as When Love Takes Over and Sexy Bitch, while Flo Rida had established himself through global hits including Low. Their work together connected two artists who were already finding success from different sides of pop, hip-hop and electronic dance music.

Before they recorded Club Can’t Handle Me, David Guetta was already familiar with Flo Rida’s music and had played Low alongside his own Love Is Gone during DJ sets. Flo Rida later spoke about being a fan of Guetta’s work as well, giving the collaboration a history that went beyond simply pairing two successful names for the soundtrack.

A 2010 Crossover Still Reaching New Listeners

The years since its release have kept Club Can’t Handle Me in regular circulation across streaming platforms. Even 16 years later, the track continues to add hundreds of thousands of Spotify streams each day, eventually taking it beyond the 1 billion mark.

That places the song alongside Titanium, Memories, Hey Mama, Sexy Bitch and I’m Good (Blue) among David Guetta’s other billion-stream tracks on Spotify. For a collaboration first released during the early-2010s dance-pop crossover, the new figure adds another major streaming achievement to a record that had already spent years reaching audiences around the world.
