Ekonovah Enters A New Chapter With His New Two-Track House EP ‘The Beginning’!

After getting us hooked on his ‘Medicine’ single all over again by way of the stacked remix package, Ekonovah returns to IN / ROTATION with a stunning two-track EP, ‘The Beginning’. During the first week of 2020, Ekonovah took to social media to hint at some impending alterations he had in mind for his artistic vision. “I’ve been focused on making a new style, singing on my own tracks, playing more piano in these records, and making something that (I hope) will stand the test of time,” he writes. After locking himself away in the studio with this new agenda, the Arizona-based producer has emerged wielding a new two-track EP that signals to the dawn of a new age for the fastidious house head.

“‘The Beginning’ is a song about self-love and knowing that you are great, but at the same time understanding that there is always room for improvement,” says Ekonovah. “I wrote ‘The Beginning’ when COVID lockdowns were starting, and ended up spending the duration of quarantine experimenting with my vocals and songwriting with vulnerable topics. To date, ‘The Beginning’ is still one of my favorites, as it approaches being one-year-old since finishing the track!”

The name of the title cut alone, ‘The Beginning’, is very indicative of where his heart was at while he was piecing together this new project. On it, he fashions a crunchy but ultimately airy groove that floats graciously underneath circular piano chords and soft sung vocals with lyrics echoing his journey towards reinvention. Filling out the flipside is “Iris,” which is filtered through the lens of the more dancefloor-focused Ekonovah the world has come to know over the last couple of years. It’s a real eye-opener of a bass house track, one that glides along dilating synth slides, whirring pads, shuffling drums and that signature push-pull movement he does so well. With two dichotomous tracks headed in their own unique direction, he leaves the possibilities open-ended on what is to be expected next.
