EXIT Festival is returning to its historic home at Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia, with a special event planned for July 2027 ahead of the festival’s full-scale comeback in 2028.

EXIT Festival has announced its return to Serbia in 2028. After leaving its iconic home at Petrovaradin Fortress in 2025 due to financial and political pressure from the Serbian government, the festival giant is set to make its homecoming after a three-year absence.

The announcement came today through EXIT’s social media platforms, after Serbia celebrated the victory of a student-led party over the former government earlier this week. EXIT Festival has supported the students throughout the movement, which began with protests following the collapse of a concrete canopy at Novi Sad railway station in November 2024, killing 16 people.

EXIT’s political stance was followed by the withdrawal of state funding and tourism grants for the festival. Following its 25th anniversary edition in 2025, EXIT left Serbia, with organisers stating that freedom has no price and that they were leaving to defend the fundamental right to freedom of expression.

What Is Next

Speculations around EXIT returning home started shortly after the student led party won the elections. Today, all rumours were finally answered, with the organisers announcing 2028 as the full-scale comeback EXIT Festival.

While the festival’s full return is still two years away, following strong support, organisers are already working on a special EXIT experience at Petrovaradin Fortress in July 2027. More details will be announced soon.

It has been a busy yet celebratory week in Serbia, and it seems to be getting even better with the iconic EXIT Festival returning to its roots.
