Fatboy Slim Unveils Fun Facts About The Making Of ‘Praise You’ Music Video

Fatboy Slim’s 1998 smash hit ‘Praise You’ off the amazing ‘You’ve Come A Long Way Baby’ album is one of his greatest tracks accompanied by a legendary music video with an interesting story behind it. Fatboy Slim has taken to Instagram to unveil some interesting facts behind the making of the video.

Directed by and starring Spike Jonze who would go on to direct some massive productions including ‘Jackass: The Movie’, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and ‘Her’, the video follows a group dancing at various locations in West Hollywood. The video was made on a budget of only $800 and filmed on handheld cameras which helped making it seem like nothing important was being recorded as they had no filming permits. With no permit and the areas where they filmed being out in public, the crowds and reactions from them are all genuine.

Initially the video was rejected by MTV as they said that it looked low quality, however it went onto win the award for Breakthrough Video, Best Direction, and Best Choreography at the MTV Video Music Awards. ‘Praise You’ went to number 1 in the UK and in 2001 the video was voted number 1 of the 100 best music videos of all time in a poll to mark the 20th anniversary of MTV. The video defied its critics to become what is considered one of the most iconic music videos of all time that it is still captivating people 27 years after its release.
