Having just launched their brand new record label in 2021, FIVE Music, FIVE Hotels & Resorts were keen to make their mark on the international dance music scene and they’ve done just that. Their award-winning hotel in Dubai plays host to some major events and parties, most recently inviting German house stars Tube & Berger and vocalist Grace Gachot to perform and celebrate the release of their single ‘It’s A Fine Day’. To celebrate this release, we had the pleasure of speaking with Grace about all things FIVE, working with Tube & Berger, her plans for 2022, and more.
Hey Grace, thanks for taking the time to speak with us! Let’s kick things off with your brand new single ‘It’s A Fine Day’ alongside Tube & Berger. How happy are you with the finished product?
Hi! Of course! I’m so pleased with the final version, Tube & Berger did an incredible job at marrying this beautiful catchy hook with their modernised, fresh production. ‘It’s A Fine Day’ is a cover and the idea to reinterpret the song came from Berger, so I really let them take the lead and trusted in them to produce and guide the song the best way they saw fit.
Tube & Berger have been a major part of the electronic dance music scene for several years. What was it like to work alongside these two talented artists?
It was really great. I had no idea what to expect when we flew to Germany to cut the vocals but they were such a joy to work with. Since then, I have especially kept a close relationship with Tube and we have virtually spoken everyday since our first session (over a year ago now!) We always say he is like the uncle I never had and I know we will be friends and collaborators for life. I am so grateful to have met and worked with these two talents.
The single pays tribute to a true classic, how did it feel to give this single a modern touch?
Yes! There is definitely an added pressure when it is someone else’s baby you’re handling! Initially, I tried out a couple of different vocal interpretations (some more powerful, some with more edge) but in the end, we kept going back to the pure and dreamy delivery that the original vocal holds. Tube & Berger did an incredible job making the production feel so fresh.
The single finds its home as the second release on FIVE Music. How does it feel to be on one of the early releases on this label?
It’s really exciting. FIVE is such a unique brand with an unorthodox approach to all that they do. I truly admire and respect the way they just make things happen! I have a close relationship with the whole team at FIVE. We are all motivated by passion and the love of what we do. It means so much to do this all together and I am honored to be a part of this crazy family.
You had the chance to soak in everything that FIVE has to offer over the past couple of weeks. What is the atmosphere and vibe around the place?
FIVE has an electric atmosphere, there is always something going on. It’s young, fresh and alive – there is so much music playing in every corner of the hotel! One word that I think sums up the way you feel at FIVE is ‘happiness’ – it is clear that their priority is the experience of their guests. There is also a feeling of freedom which runs through the hotel. Every detail around the place is perfected to an incredibly high standard – from the beach party ‘Bohemia’ to the evenings at The Penthouse – you will have a great time!
FIVE is becoming known as one of the go-to destinations in the world, would you agree with this?
For sure! Every time I visit, I am overwhelmed by the amount of different cultures and interesting people I come across. It really is a hub for people from all around the world. I think it’s beautiful that so many people from different walks of life can unite in one place and share their experiences with others.
After a tough year for all of the music industry, how has your 2021 been?
It’s been up and down. The year started in a lockdown which felt super long but ever since then it has been getting busier and busier. I try to take the positive out of the quieter times because they gave me the chance to be able to put my head down and truly focus on my vision. That being said, the last few months have been hectic and I have definitely worked myself more than I ever have done in my life.
Do you have any special plans incoming for 2022?
Yes for sure! This will be my first year sharing music so I am so excited for this to start happening! I have worked for so long on the songwriting side of things, that there is a whole other side of this world that I haven’t experienced yet. I have a couple of things up my sleeve that I can’t wait to share in 2022!! On another note, we have just filmed the second music video for my next FIVE release which was shot at one of FIVE’s signature locations by Ray Kay – the award-winning music video director who’s done videos for artists like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, and Britney Spears! It was one of the biggest honours of my career to work alongside him and I can’t wait for this to be released in 2022. Stay tuned 🙂
