The mysterious figure operating out of France has been shaping up to be one of the most awe-inducing names shining from within the progressive house scene as of late. In the last couple of years, he’s become a familiar face on the IN / ROTATION imprint, wielding two previous EPs demonstrating his uncanny ability to maneuver around body-moving melodies. This month, Hidden Face is stepping back into the spotlight with his forthcoming two-tracker. His sonorous skillset gleams brightly on the title cut, ‘I Don’t Know’, which pairs a sugary metallic riff with moody vocalizations tugging at the heartstrings. The progression is lofty with a push and pull nature playing out like waves crashing and receding with a hint of optimism tucked inside its roiling synth arrangements. On the latter half, Hidden Face creates a contrasting counterpart in the best way possible on ‘Alone’, employing darker textures that drift delicately over a decidedly stellar groove. A propulsive rhythm drives intently through the space, while foreboding arpeggiating tones swirl seamlessly around pulsating basslines and choir-like atmospherics.
Until now, the B-side of his EP has remained a special ID from his recent live stream set during the IN / ROTATION showcase on Insomniac TV, where he put his melodic sensibilities on display alongside performances from Capozzi, FreeFall, and the debut of the newcomer house duo Glass Petals. Aside from the three outings he’s enjoyed on the label, Hidden Face has maintained a healthy output on a range of stables including Armada, Kitsune, Lowly, mau5trap, and Uprise. His releases have garnered support from top-tier talents from the likes of Martin Garrix, Tiesto, Don Diablo, Lane 8, Zeds Dead, Alison Wonderland, and the list is only going to get bigger from here on out.
