ILLENIUM OPENS UP ABOUT DRUG ADDICTION

“Addiction is fucked. It makes you fall in love with something that can’t love you back.”

This opening quote from Illenium really hits home. Drug addiction is a massive problem all around the world as a lot of people fall into a bad state when it comes to drug addiciton, and Illenium opens up about it to Vevo in this recent interview. Illenium reveals that the last time he used drugs he overdosed and because of this his heart stopped, due to this he had to quit drugs and find “something to live for”. He then goes on to say he “fell in love with Skiing”, but it was not healing him fully, so he turned to music.

The very popular song ‘Take You Down’ was written when Illenium was in a “really dark spot”, recently being kicked out of rehab and he says he felt like it “was going to be my last night alive” but his mom helped save him. Illenium also talks about how fans were messaging him saying his music was helping them through addiction, while he was battling addiction too.

Illenium goes on to say “I definitely think having a community of people that care about you to the core is essential if you’re going to get out of whatever slump urine or whatever struggles you have”. If anyone that is reading this is going through struggles in life, you are not alone and there is a lot of helplines available worldwide to help you.
