Rising Jamaican artist Savour is set to make his official debut with the release of his reggae single “Milk and Honey”, under the esteemed record label Rule 1 Music. Seamlessly blending Caribbean roots with global influences, Savour’s sound is a fresh take on reggae’s rich legacy, infused with contemporary stylings and heartfelt storytelling.
Savour, born Johovan Gaynor, draws inspiration from local legends such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Damian Marley, Sean Paul, and Shaggy, while also embracing the artistry of international stars like John Legend, H.E.R., and Adam Levine. His vocal style, honed under the influence of dancehall icon Baby Cham, strikes a perfect balance between refined melodies and raw, unfiltered grit—qualities that shine through in “Milk and Honey”.
The origins of “Milk and Honey” highlight Savour’s natural creativity. What started as a lighthearted moment in the studio—when he jokingly sang about adding milk and honey to his coffee—quickly turned into something undeniably special. “I started singing it as a joke, but the vibe was undeniable”, he recalls. “We jumped into the studio and made magic”.
Raised in the vibrant communities of Great Pond, Fern Grove, and Exchange in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, Savour’s music is deeply rooted in his upbringing. His early years were shaped by a diverse mix of sounds—his mother’s love for soul and gospel, and his father’s reggae and dancehall playlists that played in his taxi. Though his first passions were cricket, football, and kite flying, it was through poetry that his artistic journey began, evolving into songwriting and, eventually, a full-fledged music career.
“Music is like painting on a canvas”, says Savour. “I want people to feel like they are stepping into the world I’m creating—whether it’s about joy, love, or life’s struggles”. His music bridges the gap between old-school and new-school reggae, aiming for a timeless appeal that resonates across generations.
Looking ahead, Savour has his sights set on an EP or album, as well as collaborations with icons like Damian Marley, Baby Cham, and H.E.R. While deeply rooted in reggae and dancehall, he refuses to be confined by genre, embracing a vision that extends to the global stage.
With his bold, captivating sound and undeniable charisma, Savour is poised to leave a lasting impact on the reggae and dancehall scene. As his journey unfolds, one thing is certain—the world will continue to savour every note he delivers.
