One of the most notable break out acts in dance music in recent years, is none other than Chicago’s John Summit. Breaking out with the mammoth hit single ‘Deep End’, released on Defected Records, the single garnered over 27 million streams across platforms, and became Beatport’s longest running #1 of the year. Now Summit teams up with two of Australia’s finest, Parachute Youth, for a new edit of the classic single ‘Can’t Get Better Than This’. The original debut single was a huge international success for the Parachute Youth (Johnny Castro (Courtidis), and Mat KVon), whilst earning Sweat It Out one of its first ARIA Gold Record since the labels inception just a few years prior, and charting in the Top 10 across Belgium and Luxembourg. A decade in the making, John Summit & Parachute Youth’s new record ‘Better Than This’ breathes new life into the classic – Summit’s trademark drum design, with crisp claps and energetic hi-hats are all held together by an unrelenting yet full bodied bassline arpeggiation that ensures the vocal is front and centre. Discussing his first original release on thefollowing a remix for Torren Foot’s ‘More Life’, John Summit shares, “I’ve been a huge fan of Sweat It Out for years so when they reached out to me about working with Australian-based Parachute Youth it was a no-brainer! The combination of their smooth vocals and synth work along with my house music sound clicked instantly.”
Having had an absolutely stellar run over the past couple of years, John Summit, has quickly emerged as one of the leading talents in dance music. Since releasing ‘Deep End’, he’s gone onto remix the likes of Jax Jones and Au/Ra’s ‘i miss you’, Gorgon City and DRAMA’s ‘You’ve Done Enough’, in addition to a string of further originals including ‘Thin Line’, ‘Beauty Sleep’, and most recently ‘Make Me Feel’, which again sits atop Beatport’s overall chart.
Speaking to his excitement on the new collaboration, John from Parachute Youth shares, “To see the song that started my music career come out again after its first release a decade ago, is truly exciting and can’t wait to see where it goes a second time around!”. Mat adds “This track means just as much to Johnny and I as the day it was first played on triple j here in Oz, ‘Can’t Get Better Than This’ and subsequent releases gave us a touring career and fans worldwide who still message us to this day”.
Although having split as an artistic duo in 2014, the legacy of Parachute Youth has lived on. Mat has gone onto release under Fast Apache on Medium Rare Recordings, and Johnny Courtidis, having released originals under Yeah Boy, has also gone on to work with the likes of Liam Payne (One Direction), Icona Pop, Sonny Fodera, Sigala, Joel Corry, and Raye just to name a few. Proving himself as one of the most successful songwriters out of Australia in recent years, Johnny co-wrote, and co-produced Joel Corry’s international hit single ‘Head & Heart’. The incredible upbeat and instant record recently hit 1 billion combined streams, whilst reaching #1 in 13 countries, multi-platinum sales in 8 countries, gold sales in a further 9, and became the longest UK number one song in 2020 staying 6 weeks at the top.
With the extraordinary songwriting talents of Parachute Youth, coupled with the production steez of John Summit, ‘Better Than This’, is ready for a whole new generation to fall in love with.
