John Summit responds to backlash after Buenos Aires set ends 40 minutes early amid questions over advertised set time in Argentina

What was expected to be a late-night headline set in Buenos Aires ended with more questions than answers after John Summit left the stage around 40 minutes earlier than many attendees anticipated. Attendees expected the September 12 show at Mandarine Tent to continue until 6:00 AM. Some also anticipated a full three-hour set from the American DJ. When the music stopped at around 5:20 AM, frustration quickly spread online. Complaints focused on the missing set time and the lack of any explanation inside the venue. John Summit later responded himself, saying the show was already the longest of his current tour. He also questioned how the promoter had handled the schedule.

Questions Grow Over the Advertised Set Time

At the centre of the confusion is the difference between what attendees expected and the length of John Summit’s actual booking. The September 12 event at Mandarine Tent continued through the early hours, with LP Giobbi and Najles also on the lineup. Several attendees said they expected John Summit to play from around 3:00 AM until 6:00 AM. His approximately 5:20 AM finish therefore came as a surprise.

Once complaints began spreading online, attention quickly turned to whether the 6:00 AM end time applied specifically to John Summit’s set or the entire event. Public listings show the night continuing through to 6:00 AM. However, they do not confirm that John Summit personally agreed to perform until then. Some attendees blamed the artist, while others questioned how the promoter communicated the schedule beforehand.

For those who had organised transport around the expected finish, the confusion also caused problems once the music stopped. Several attendees said they found themselves outside earlier than planned. Some also reported longer waits or additional costs getting home. Their criticism extended beyond the missing 40 minutes to how the event communicated its timings before the night began.

John Summit Pushes Back Against the Reaction

As the reaction continued, John Summit responded directly in a Reddit discussion about the Buenos Aires show. He said it had already been the longest performance of his current tour. He also explained that he went straight to the airport afterwards. His next show was scheduled for the following night in Rio de Janeiro. John Summit argued that the promoter should have booked another DJ if they wanted the event to continue later.

That airport departure came during four consecutive Latin American dates. John Summit played Bogotá on September 10 and São Paulo on September 11. He then performed in Buenos Aires on September 12 before continuing to Rio de Janeiro on September 13. The schedule matches his account of heading straight to the airport once his Argentina performance ended.

Touring Pressure and the Abuse That Followed

The discussion continued beyond the original Reddit response when John Summit addressed the situation again on social media. This time, he spoke more openly about the pressure of touring. He wrote about constant flights, limited sleep and long periods away from home. He also said those factors can affect his mental health despite how glamorous touring may appear online. In the same post, he thanked audiences in Colombia and Brazil for their support across Bogotá, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

When addressing the reaction from Argentina, John Summit thanked those who came for the music before turning to the abuse he said he received afterwards. According to his post, some people sent messages telling him to kill himself. He said the messages came after he played 2 hours and 20 minutes instead of three hours. John Summit also stated that two hours is the standard length of his show.

Even with that fuller explanation, the disagreement over the schedule remains unresolved. Some attendees continue to place responsibility on the promoter. Others maintain that they expected a full three-hour set. The promoter has not publicly clarified John Summit’s individual set time.

With the overall event promoted through to 6:00 AM, questions remain over what attendees were actually promised beforehand. John Summit says he had already played longer than his usual two-hour show. Public listings confirm the overall end time but do not show a three-hour booking for him specifically. Until the promoter clarifies that difference, the gap between audience expectations and John Summit’s account remains at the centre of the backlash.
