Keanu Silva Talks New Music, Production Style, Learning Under Laidback Luke, And More!

Keanu Silva kicks off his 2021 release schedule with his incredible new hit ‘Turn It Up’. The dance inducing, future house track provides a glimmer of light to these dark times. Perfect for the coming summer months, the German native turns up the heat with ‘Turn It Up’, “You make the darkness turn into light. You make the fire burning inside”. We had the pleasure of chatting with Keanu Silva about his new music among other topics!

Thanks for taking this time to speak with us, let’s kick it off with ‘Turn It Up’. How happy are you with the finished product and its home on Universal Music?
“Totally happy! I had a great time working on this track in virtual sessions. The energy and vibe is setting up the perfect start of a new and hopefully good year for all of us!”

Over the past few years, you’ve impressed with several remixes such as ‘Why Do You Like To Me’, ‘Call You Mine, and ‘Jackie Chan’ to name a few. Do you feel working on these remixes has helped when creating original tracks with vocals?
“Creating originals is a whole different process but working on those high profile remixes is helpful for creating your own singles afterwards for sure. I love to get inspired by these tracks which then get my Keanu touch during the remix-production process.”

‘Turn It Up’ features that signature hard hitting yet groovy bass line that we’ve come to love from you. Do you feel an identifiable style is important for artists creating their own music?
“That’s what comes from within when you are passionate about what you are doing in the studio. And I think this is important and recognized by people. I try to focus on what I really love and sometimes experiment without industry-boundaries in my head, that’s the moment when signature sounds come to life.”

Rewinding back to 2020, although a tough year for the dance music scene, what were your own personal highlights?
“I played a few shows at the beginning of 2020 when it was still possible, that was definitely one of my highlights besides creating all the music over the year. It was a tough year for the culture-scene overall, can’t wait to play shows in the future again!”

Early in your career you were matched up with Laidback Luke and Mixmash Records. How was it to learn from a veteran in the scene when you were growing as an artist?
“I learned a lot from Luke on both the Djing and Production-side! We had a few gigs together and had some really fun times on stage! Inside the studio when we were collaborating he always had a clear vision on what the result should sound like and how to transport the right emotions to the people out there who are listening to our music.”

With high profile releases together with Don Diablo and Laidback Luke, who would be your dream collab both in and out of the dance scene?
“There are so many amazing artists out there who I would love to work with, and I am looking forward to all the inspiring collaborations to come hopefully in the future! But for now, I will be focussing on some solo productions first :)”

Speaking on productions, you’ve modernised classics such as ‘King Of My Castle’ and ‘Tell Me Why’. If you could put your touches on any other classic, which one would it be?
“If only I knew! haha! This is a good question but I am more focussed on doing originals right now. But who knows what classic tune might come my way someday!”

Moving forward with the year and vaccines being rolled out worldwide, what are you most excited about when the world returns to normal?
“To live life to the fullest. Go in every restaurant I like, to the gym and hairdresser 😀 And of course I am very excited to play shows and to meet all the amazing people and fans.”

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us! Do you have any news about more upcoming music this year?
“I will be releasing my next single which is finished and will be coming out in the next few months. I am also working hard with my team to continue to bring the Keanu sound all across this year and beyond! This is what we do :)”
