Lost Frequencies’ Are You With Me remains one of his biggest breakthrough tracks 12 years after its original release

Released in 2014, Are You With Me first started out as Lost Frequencies’ rework of Easton Corbin’s country song. It soon introduced Felix De Laet to a global audience. He kept the original guitar and vocal at the centre, pairing them with a stripped-back electronic production that first gained attention on SoundCloud. From there, the track reached No. 1 in 18 countries and topped the UK Singles Chart. Years later, it passed one billion Spotify streams and further cemented its place as the release that launched Lost Frequencies’ international career.

The Country Song Behind Lost Frequencies’ Are You With Me

Before Lost Frequencies released Are You With Me, the song had already appeared in a very different form through American country artist Easton Corbin. Felix De Laet found the original while looking for music to rework, with its clean guitar immediately catching his attention. He had also been listening closely to tracks such as Wankelmut’s One Day. Its combination of acoustic elements and electronic production helped inspire his approach.

Working from the opening sections, Felix De Laet added bass and kick while keeping the arrangement stripped back. The guitar and vocal stayed central to the remix. Once he uploaded it to SoundCloud, attention began growing around the track and eventually reached a label. A vocalist then re-recorded the lyrics for the official version, while the main idea behind his remix stayed intact. That release gave Lost Frequencies his first major breakthrough and took the country song rework onto charts around the world.

From SoundCloud Remix to No. 1 in 18 Countries

Once the official release began reaching a wider audience, Are You With Me quickly moved beyond the listeners who had first found Lost Frequencies on SoundCloud. It reached No. 1 in 18 countries, including Belgium, Germany, Austria, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. Its British chart run proved particularly impressive. The track entered the Official Singles Chart at No. 97 before climbing all the way to No. 1. In doing so, Lost Frequencies became the first Belgian artist to top the chart.

The success continued for months, with Are You With Me spending 10 weeks in the UK Top 10 and 40 weeks in the Top 100. Certifications followed throughout Europe, including Diamond status in Germany. By then, the bedroom remix had given Felix De Laet his first international hit. It had also introduced Lost Frequencies to listeners around the world.

With Lost Frequencies firmly established as an international electronic artist, Are You With Me continued finding new listeners long after its original chart run. In 2024, it passed one billion Spotify streams. That made it his second track to reach the milestone after Where Are You Now. Felix De Laet later reflected on making the song in his bedroom before seeing it reach listeners around the world. Twelve years on, it remains closely tied to the beginning of his international career.
