Spinnin’s golden duo Lucas & Steve brings a fresh gust of energy in the shape of ‘Letters’, an impressive crossover tune that brings the duo’s trademark feelgood melodies together with upbeat guitar chords, inspiring vocals and a drop that will lift any audience sky high. This deliciously smooth song feeds you with the intoxicating summer love you always needed. We had the pleasure of interviewing Lucas & Steve to celebrate their latest release.
Let’s start off with ‘Letters’. How happy are you with the finished product and its home on Spinnin’ Records?
“We’re super thrilled. Definitely record spinnin knows what to do with.”
Over the past couple of years, you have set yourself as one of the most diverse artists on Spinnin’ Records roster, how have you found your time as artists on the Spinnin’ roster?
“Thanks! We’ve grown a lot since we signed our first track with Spinnin. And indeed, we’ve always loved producing a broad variety of dance music and we’ve found spinnin to be an extraordinary partner in promoting this.”
Firmly cementing yourselves with an upbeat and energetic melodic style, how important do you feel it is to have your own identity as artists
“It’s maybe even the most important thing nowadays! It can take a lot of time creating this own identity of course, but without it it’s impossible to stand out between all the talent worldwide.”
With several diverse releases in multiple genres, how enjoyable do you find it is to experiment with new sounds and styles?
“That’s one of the aspects of making music that is the most fun. We listen to a lot of different kinds of music and try to learn as much as possible from every genre and then make it into our own sound. It also helps to know exactly how creating sounds in synthesizers and samplers works”
Keeping on the topic of signature style, is there any certain style you haven’t experimented with over the years that you would like to?
“Would be so much fun creating a k-pop track!! We’ve created hiphop, techno but have never released it as Lucas & Steve but it’s always worth experimenting!”
With high-profile collaborations alongside veteran artists such as Ummet Ozcan, W&W, Armin van Buuren, Firebeatz, and more, if you only had 1 collaboration remaining in your career, who would you guys want it to be with?
“Dua Lipa would be sick!!”
When it comes to you stepping into the studio and creating a track from scratch, what comes first in your process? The drop, the breakdown, the melody, or all of the above.
“Melody usually comes first. If that’s near to perfect we start designing sounds and building the track.”
With the cancellation of all shows across the world, how have you found it is to be in/near your studio for most of the day working on or finishing new music?
“That’s actually not too bad. Of course we learn everyday and this gets accelerated when you have the time to work at the studio at least 5days a week!”
With this break in performances, what have you enjoyed most about taking time off from touring and what do you miss most about the lack of shows?
“It’s great to be closer to friends and family now and we’re having a blast working at the studio. Never bores us! We miss our fans across the world the most! Can’t wait to see and meet everybody again. Especially because there’s so much new music coming that we’re thrilled to show.”
Ending the interview, would you like to share any exclusive news with us? 😉
“Hehe always!! There’s an album coming this year…!!!:D”
