New Jersey’s Mark Wise has a knack for creating unexpected and fruitful stylistic mash-ups. For the past five years, the experimental DJ and producer has been mixing techno, progressive house, and trance grooves into his own distinct genre-defying sound. He showcased this diversity by releasing the two-track ‘Heavy Metal’ EP, an EP that combined the techno world with the world of rock. With that EP receiving major plaudits from listeners all over the world, Mark Wise has decided to take it to the next level with the release of ‘Riff Machine’.
In this new techno/metal hybrid, Mark Wise composes as both a rocker and an EDM producer. The result is a high-energy sound that goes hard into both worlds. With the structure and tempo of a techno track, the true beauty of this single is how Mark incorporates that rock and metal sound. He does it in a non-subtle way which really adds to the diversity of the single as instead of the usual driving kicks and basslines of techno, it’s a heavy guitar riff that takes center stage and controls the single. The riff is super mindblowing and changes all throughout the single, with the techno elements acting as a backup to keep the structure and depth alive.
