Merchant has spent years making captivating edits, supporting the likes of Themba, Sparrow & Barbossa, Chris Luno, and Wakin & SOMMA on stage with his amazing DJ sets, and earning acclaim from big names such as Blond:ISH, Diplo, and Pete Tong. But now he is finally taking the next big step as he releases his first original single ‘Tu Ta Le’ alongside Hoax (BE) and Idd Aziz.
‘Tu Ta Le’ is a display of truly beautiful production in which merchant and Hoax (BE) expertly blend Progressive House and Afro House with Caribbean influences to make an incredibly unique track that stands as an impressive debut single. The drum pattern upon which the song is based around is addictive with lovely crisp sounding percussion and a nice thick kick drum that then has the bass and lead perfectly crafted around it. Idd Aziz’s astonishing vocals add a great deal of heart to the song along with a nice rich texture which really helps to elevate ‘Tu Ta Le’ to the next level.
Speaking about how the song came together, merchant said: “About a year ago, Hoax and I connected online as mutual fans of each other’s work, and we knew we had to collaborate. We started with the initial idea and sent it to Idd Aziz, who brought it to life with his incredible vocals. Over the past year, we kept refining it—going back and forth until we landed on what you hear today.”
Merchant has built a reputation as an incredible producer with his viral edit of John Summit’s ‘Where You Are’, his take on Damian Marley’s ‘Welcome to Jamrock’, and now his debut single. Garnering over half a million streams on Soundcloud and growing an international following, merchant is an artist on the up with the sky as the limit and ‘Tu Ta Le’ is a song that shows he is an artist to watch.
