MNNR is making his way back over to IN / ROTATION with his first solo appearance on the imprint via ‘Close Your Eyes’. While MNNR has been making some considerable waves in the bass house space in recent memory, the Italian producer shows some restraint on his latest creation to chase a deeper groove while still retaining the characteristically unique sound that originally put him on the map.
‘Close Your Eyes’ kicks off with a thumping kick and warbling one-shots, as the track carefully tumbles onwards to pick up solid 808 percussive elements along the way. He continually works in a reverberated vocal refrain pointing back to the track’s title, which adds a mesmerizing effect to the dark pads and wonky flourishes that are surgically plotted throughout the track’s three-and-a-half-minute run.
As an audio engineer by trade, the Italian artist wields all the right tools to craft technically sound cuts have the ability to slice through the noise. He’s used this expertise to hammer out low-end driven rhythms that always carry an irresistible bounce. In the last couple of years, he’s enjoyed a number of stints on IN / ROTATION, including a collab with Kendoll on ‘Wassap’, as well as his barreling ‘Conmigo’ contribution on the first installment of the label’s ‘Rotate’ compilation series. His latest addition to the IN / ROTATION catalog sees him targeting a more underground tech approach, and he pulls it off with tremendous ease.
