With the release of his first track of the year and second track overall, ‘Machine Elves’, Pierro officially kicks off what is going to be a defining year in 2020. We had the pleasure of interviewing this emerging artist and you can see the full interview below.
How happy are you with the outcome of ‘Machine Elves’? Considering you switched up your style and tried something new.
“I’m very proud of the song and the styles that were mixed with it, it felt like me, because I’ve always been a huge fan of both techno and in particular progressive house. It’s what I’ve been listening to for a long time and what got me into the electronic music scene in the first place when I was a teenager trying to find my place in the world. I started to work on ‘Machine Elves’ in a hotel room in Shenzhen in China, while I was joining W&W as a supporting act on their China tour. Then I got back home to Sweden, kept working on it there, and then step by step, I worked on it also in various hotel rooms in Sweden, Finland, Thailand and then finished it in Amsterdam right before my ADE show at the Rave Culture Party, where I had the chance to try it out for the first time!”
With 1 release in 2019 and now 1 single released in 2020, how are you hoping to keep the momentum rolling in the coming months?
“During 2019, and the beginning of 2020, I had a lot of time to work on more music, both while on the road, and while being at home, with studies and everyday life stuff mixed in between. With that being said, more music will start coming out more frequently from me, since I now have more time to focus on the artistic side of my life!”
With a big room house style release under your belt along with a techno-influenced release, is there any other style of production you would like to try out?
“For sure! I’m always looking for inspiration within the whole electronic music spectrum, but at the same time, it feels like I came to a nice place where the sound that i’ve been working on right now will lay a foundation for my upcoming releases!”
With both of your previous releases being solo productions, would you like to work with any other producers out there and if so, who?
“Oh, I actually have a collaboration that might see the daylight soon enough, I’m not ready to announce it just yet tho! But what I can say is that the song is a perfect combination between our styles!:) My dream collaboration would be with Odesza, because I just love their sound, it’s so unique and cool, but also very different from my style. I think it would be interesting to see what could happen if we tried to work on a song together, and see what we would end up with!”
Do you have any upcoming singles scheduled to be released and if so, can you give us a teaser of what to expect?
“I have some originals, and some remixes coming up this year! I’m diving more deep within the sound that I’ve been working on. They are a mix of both melodic and techy! I hope that they will hit home at the clubs and festivals, since that has been my mindset what they are made for! When exactly they will be out is hard to say just yet, but I will announce them one by one, stay tuned! ;)”
In your view, what comes first: the drop, the breakdown, or the build?
“Good question! For me, i think all of these things are important – but also that they work well together. I personally have a soft spot for buildups, because, for me, it’s the climax of the song, especially if you are at a huge venue that syncs with the whole visual production, it’s something really special about that!”
What style/tactic do you always use in the studio that helps you create/finish your productions?
“I strive to always think of the bigger picture. For me it’s important to be as objective as possible, and asking yourself the right questions about the production. Like, is it too long, or too short? Will this particular sound/effect benefit the song or not? I think it’s good to play around with a track, and then take a break to get some distance from it, and then listen in another environment, maybe when taking a walk, driving around, chilling with friends, etc.”
What goals do you have set for the coming months/years?
“Right now, I’m focusing on preparing my releases, which I’m super excited about to share with the world! Beyond that, of course touring is on my radar, both home in Sweden and abroad! You can follow my journey on my Instagram @Pierromusic”
