Let’s focus on one of the best and legendary unreleased Progressive House tunes: ‘You & I’ by Dutch producer & DJ, Nicky Romero. First played at TomorrowWorld Atlanta 2013, it wasn’t his first attempt at this kind of Progressive as he already made the underrated “Schizophrenic”, a few successful collaborations with David Guetta, and of course the worldwide hit with Avicii: “I Could Be The One”
Let’s dive into the production. The beginning of the track is quite interesting as the riff from the guitar slowly preludes the vocal. Next, the build-up comes up and the drop freshly blasts Nicky Romero’s kick with uplifting chords. Then comes an emotional breakdown featuring again the surprising yet lovely vocal performance from Ash Pournouri! After another buildup, the last drop comes as a climax that lasts almost one minute. Nicky would have probably released this tune at the beginning of 2014 if only he wasn’t hit by an anxiety crisis that almost ended his career. We had lost every hope of a release but 4 years later, Nicky proved that he didn’t forget about this track when he played ‘You & I’ at the first Protocol Radio episode of 2018.
At last, we had a high-quality preview of the track and a few words from the dutch producer about the backstory. He explained that it started as an instrumental demo on which he added vocals Ash sent him, and he announced that he would probably replace the vocals if he plans to release it someday.
Another highlight of this Protocol Radio episode was another highly awaited ID: his collaboration with Eva Simons ‘Circle Of One’. We found out earlier this year that Nicky and Eva are scheduling a release so we are crossing our fingers that “You & I will be next!
