Rising and promising artist, Raquel, is bursting her way through the music scene with her debut album, ‘Wishing on Stars’. The Toronto-born singer and pianist has been engulfed in music since the tender age of 4 years old. From doing musicals, competing in singing and piano, and performing professionally as a pianist, her moment has finally come to showcase what she’s capable of in this project.
The 6-track EP offers a soulful and unique look into Raquel’s world as her songs evokes a sense of imagery of elements regarding nature such as space, the night sky, sunsets, and stars.
Raquel’s inspiration of including nature in her music stems from her love of astronomy and the natural world. Prior to becoming an artist, she was in the process of completing a Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics before withdrawing to pursue music professionally. As Raquel describes her songwriting process, “When I songwrite, I tend to tap into my inner emotions. I’m someone who looks at the stars at night; someone who loves the moon, sunsets, the ocean, lightning, thunder, and stormy skies. I love to reference these elements of nature into my songwriting. When I write, I like to create imagery of beautiful things, and to me, nature and space are compelling and beautiful. Space and nature are my muse, so, from them I love to create art.”
‘Wishing on Stars’ is a mix of RnB/Pop and electronic. With standout tracks such as ‘With You’ ft. TVGUCCI, ‘Angel’ ft. Kofi, and ‘Make You Mine’, Raquel takes listeners on a musical journey that is expressive, emotive, and multidimensional.
For those who are unfamiliar with Raquel’s background, it’s necessary to recognize her noteworthy accomplishments as an artist. As a professional pianist and piano composer, she has composed well over 50 original piano pieces, she can play virtually anything by ear on the piano, can read sheet music, and has a memorized repertoire of over 1000+ songs. Prior to being the artist she is today, she was in the process of pursuing a career as an international pianist where she nearly accepted an offer to be a Luxury Hotel Pianist in Dubai in early 2023.
Raquel’s dedication to becoming the artist she is now has led to her one of greatest accomplishments to date. She’s the epitome of what it’s like to bet on betting on yourself and following your dreams. She shares, “I was able to release Wishing On Stars within just a few months of being an artist in the music industry, so it’s definitely a project that I’m proud of! There’s some really talented artists featured on the album as well, so it was a really fun project to work on.”
Raquel’s music journey is promising and inspiring. She wants listeners to know that music means everything to her, and that, “it’s okay to love sunsets and rain; it’s okay to look up at the stars at night with a sense of wonder; that it’s okay to be vulnerable in love.”
