On January 21, 1997, the German DJ group Sash! released ‘Encore Une Fois’, a track that would rapidly ascend as a club anthem across the globe. Featured on their debut album, ‘It’s My Life – The Album’, the song is distinguished by its French vocals, brilliantly delivered by German vocalist Sabine Ohmes. ‘Encore Une Fois’, French for “One More Time,” emerged not only as a significant hit for Sash! but also as a landmark in 90s dance music.
The track saw tremendous success, especially in the UK, where it was released in February of the same year and soared to number two on the UK Singles Chart, earning a Gold certification. Its infectious rhythm and captivating vocals led it to become a top 10 hit in numerous European countries, including Belgium, Finland, France, and Italy, and it reached the top of the charts in Greece and Ireland. In the United States, ‘Encore Une Fois’ became a sensation in the club scene, dominating the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. The music video, directed by Oliver Sommer, added a visual allure to the song’s vibrant energy.
Remarkably, 11 years after its initial release, ‘Encore Une Fois’ found resurgence in popularity. It was ingeniously mashed up with Stunt‘s ‘Raindrops’, resulting in the creation of ‘Raindrops (Encore Une Fois)’, a track that once again climbed the top 40 charts in three countries. This enduring appeal highlights not only the timeless quality of the track but also the lasting impact of Sash! in the realm of electronic dance music.
