Shane Codd Chats About His New Single, Career Highlights So Far, Plans For 2023 & More!

Irish electronic talent Shane Codd and UK singer-songwriter Bryn Christopher unveiled their collaborative single ‘Feels So Good’ on the 7th of October this past year. Combining majestic strings and infectious hooks with Christopher’s hair-raising vocals, ‘Feels So Good’ is a dance track with serious staying power. We had the pleasure of chatting with Shane on a number of topics.

Hey Shane! Thanks for chatting with us. You recently released your latest track ‘Feels So Good’ – a collaboration with Bryn Christopher, how did the track come about?
Bryn is a beast! This track came about from a session we did back in February. We wanted to make a festival tune and we wanted one we felt like people could sing along to. We imagined people chanting ‘don’t it feel so good’. Bryn just nailed the vocal in this and it was impossible to pick or leave out any of the ad libs he gave me.

What has been your top career highlight so far in your journey?
I would say my first American tour was probably one of the highest moments. I’d always dreamed of going there. I remember my mates used to do J1s and I didn’t have the money back then to go. Now I’m travelling the US doing what I love and it’s amazing. Bringing my family and friends with me is the icing on top.

What made you first get into music?
I’ve loved dance music from a young age. My parents would tell me how I would love ‘Eiffel 65 – I’m Blue and to this day I love all the old school dance tunes. I started learning how to produce music when I was 19 and haven’t looked back since. My 90s trance playlist on Spotify now has over 100k followers.

After the success of your debut track ‘Get Out My Head’, things started to move pretty quickly for you in the industry. How did that feel?
Things moved fast and it was amazing. But I didn’t feel the full of effect of things until after COVID when I got to travel, meet people and actually do all the other things in the industry. Don’t get me wrong, there was some stress involved in how quickly everything changed and trying to come to grips with all the extra behind the scenes stuff the Industry brings like managing relationships with management, solicitors, accountants and learning how record labels work etc. It was a lot to take in and I’m still learning. I’ve learned so much over the past 2 years.

Outside of music, what do you like to do for fun?
I love MMA. I train Muay Thai and I love watching UFC. I try to train whenever I can and sometimes I can’t always make it an MMA gym so I just do some weights or cardio. One of the hardest things for me was coming out of lockdown and trying to get back into shape, while also managing my new lifestyle. Now I’m finally getting a balance on everything. I think looking after yourself is so important even in feeling good.

Who would be your dream collaboration in the future?
For a singer , it has to be Becky Hill. I believe it will happen I’ve met Becky a few times and she’s lovely I supported her for her dublin show last year. There’s a lot of other DJs I’d like to collab with too. Calvin Harris , MK, Sonny fodera are ones I like. I think another dream collab would have to be a Gigi D’agostino or Alice deejay, one of the legends of dance music I grew up listening to them and still do.

What are your plans for the next year? Can we expect more music?
I’m literally just planning out new music and gigs for next year. I’m working on all my tunes for next year now and I’m pulling from my influences when I was young. I’m going to experiment a lot next year and it’s going to be like an evolution. My first track is coming in January and it will have elements of my first track – Get Out My Head, with pianos and vocal chops. After that every track is going to be different – a surprise for people.
