It’s been many years since Skrillex first made waves in the EDM scene for his new and unique dubstep style. Fast forward to today: he’s still innovating with every release. His latest track, ‘Midnight Hour’, a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign and Boys Noize starts as an emotional piano and string ballad, featuring Ty‘s raw, vulnerable voice commanding the listener’s attention. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the song cuts into a wacky but powerful house beat, complete with bouncy, deep baselines and rhythmic high hats.
A far cry from what each artist is best known for, ‘Midnight Hour’ will challenge everything fans thought they knew about their favorite artists. To regular listeners of German producer Boys Noize, who made a name for himself through the release of aggressive, bass-heavy tracks, the emotional piano intro will come as a massive surprise. Similarly, fans of Ty Dolla $ign‘s usual hip-hop-infused style will be shocked by ‘Midnight Hour’.
