Following his single “Take My Breath“ last August, it was clear that The Weeknd was aiming to double down on the retro, 80s aesthetics of his previous album After Hours, while moving into an even more dance-focused direction with his next project. Now, he has finally unveiled his Dawn FM album in full, spanning 16 tracks in length, and featuring collaborations with Tyler, The Creator and Lil Wayne, as well as narration from Jim Carrey and Quincy Jones.
Dance music fans will be elated to hear that productions by Swedish House Mafia and Calvin Harris have landed on Dawn FM, as to be expected. Swedish House Mafia are still buzzing off the release of their single “Moth To A Flame” alongside The Weeknd, while they also signed with his manager Wassim “Sal” Slaiby a little before they made their long-awaited comeback with “It Gets Better.” The trio produced “How Do I Make You Love Me?” and “Sacrifice” on Dawn FM. Calvin Harris on the other hand teamed up with the prolific singer back in the summer of 2020, when they shared their collaborative single “Over Now,” and is credited as a producer on “I Heard You’re Married” featuring Lil Wayne, alongside Max Martin, OPN, Oscar Holter and The Weeknd as additional producers.
