Rewind back to 2020 and the electronic dance music world was gearing up for the festival season, with Winter Music Conference set to take place as the unofficial start of the festival season. With Ultra Music Festival set to take place, COVID-19 spread across the world and put a hold on those plans. Ultra Music Festival was so close to happened, even the stages were in the process of being built. As the first festival which was affected by the global pandemic, the UMF organizers decided to postpone the event for 1 year, hoping the pandemic would be gone and 2021 would kickstart a brand new year for dance music. However, the sad reality is that 1 year on we are still in the same place, as Ultra Music Festival have announced the postponement of the 2021 festival until 2022, now set to take place on the 25th, 26th, and 27th of March, 2022.
This announcement is a bad one for the dance music scene, potentially being the catalyst for other high profile festival such as EDC Las Vegas, Coachella, Creamfields, and Tomorrowland to follow. With a vaccine being rolled out worldwide and numerous lockdowns in countries all across the world, we have a slight hope for the festival scene to return but we are unsure when that will be.
