What Happened To: Thomas Gold & Deniz Koyu – Torn Apart

The Swedish prodigy Adrian Lux, known for the Axtone classic ‘Teenage Crime’, released another house masterpiece on Axwell’s imprint back in 2015: ‘Torn Apart’. Like many other vocal tracks on the label, the release was followed up by a bunch of remixes including Klahr and Fehrplay. In this article, we’ll be focusing on the unreleased remix from the German legends Thomas Gold and Deniz Koyu.

First premiered at Mysteryland in 2013 by Thomas Gold, the remix was played multiple times by both artists until 2014. With Axwell himself supporting it in his sets we were almost sure that the remix would be released on Axtone. But a few months later, Nicky Romero premiered a whole new version of the collab, featuring new vocals which got released in October 2015 under the name ‘Never Alone’.

Other than the fresh new vocals, there are many other differences between ‘Never Alone’ and the previous version. In the unreleased remix, the production had really different drops, more electro house infused with Deniz Koyu’s signature sound known from the classic ‘Tung’. For the new version, they turned the track into a progressive house anthem which in the end kept only the original vocal notes and rhythm.

To this very day, we still don’t know the reasons behind the cancellation of the unreleased version but nevertheless ‘Never Alone’ remains a really successful collaboration between the two German artists, and we would love to hear more from the duo in the future!
