What Happened To: W&W & Maestro Harrell – The Anthem ?

4 years ago, at Tomorrowland 2017, the Breda duo W&W premiered one of their most awaited IDs, supposed to be released during that year. But that ID remained in the big W&W unreleased folder, thus today, I would like to talk about an unexpected collaboration between the duo and the American rising DJ & Producer, Maestro Harrell : ’The Anthem’.

For those who are unfamiliar with him, Maestro Harrell is a multi-talented artist, in addition to being the Big Room producer we know him for, he is an actor, a singer-songwriter, and a rapper. He started a career as a DJ after getting inspired by Tiësto, he released his first original in 2014 but it’s really in 2015 that he started to rise after releasing a collaboration with Dzeko & Torres and signing ‘Olympus’ on Mainstage Music. During the next months, he produced remixes for the legends Tiësto and Dash Berlin and collaborations with talents like Maurice West and Olly James.

Now let’s go back to our topic, ‘The Anthem’ begins with piano chords inspired by the hit ‘Still D.R.E’ by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, then a short build up leads us to the first drop, a mixture of Trap, Jersey Club and Dutch House vocal chops. The breakdown keeps the temperature rising with a catchy big room lead building up to the final drop, more aggressive with stronger kicks playing a fast Carnival rhythm with new vocal chops.

With Maestro Harrell leaving Big Room to focus on his MAESTRO rap alias and the fact that W&W stopped playing their collab we lost hope for a release until KEVU and Jaxx & Vega started to play it again a couple of years later. A few weeks ago, the American DJ & Producer ZAXX teased his return to Big Room and Maestro Harrell commented that he might come back to the scene as well. If it happens we might have a chance to see ‘The Anthem’ getting a release on Mainstage Music’s successor Rave Culture!
