Some songs take ages to perfect, to get to the point where it reflects the artist’s musical direction and delivers the vibe and feel that its creator envisioned. Such is the case with Zack Martino and singer-songwriter Lenii’s ‘Crave U’, which had been in the making for a whopping seven years until Zack Martino saw the record take shape during his live masterclass for Armada University, Armada Music’s online producer platform. And today, that single has finally come to see its release on Armada Music, coinciding with the start of the pre-order window for Zack Martino’s music production masterclass for Armada University.
Featuring the disarming vocals of Lenii on a backdrop of addictive harmonies and catchy organ stabs, ‘Crave U’ is about being obsessed with the idea of someone and wanting what you can’t have. Zack Martino used the song’s framework as a starting point for his masterclass for Armada University, which was shot live in one of the two production studios in Armada Music’s HQ in Amsterdam. That studio session proved key into shaping the song into its current form, a grade-A song that has all it takes to make music lovers go wild.
Zack Martino: “Making this record was a really unique process. After producing four different versions, I feel like this one represents my direction as an artist the most. The dark ambience of the record worked so well with Lenii’s storyline, which really brought the vision to life.”
Lenii: “I wrote the first verse of ‘Crave U’ in Ireland when I was 15. A few years later, when I moved to New York, a mutual friend sent over Zack’s instrumental and his dark production just fit the lyrics perfectly. This was a very unique process because even though we both live in New York, the final version was made in Amsterdam over facetime. I’m very excited that it’s finally out.”
Having enjoyed great success on the airwaves, young NYC native Zack Martino truly is a star on the rise. With his unique and recognizable sound, he has gained over one million monthly listeners on Spotify and racked up a total of over 50 million streams, all the while dropping head-turning remixes of Armin van Buuren’s ‘Lonely For You’, Galantis’ ‘Rich Boy’ and The Chainsmokers’ ‘Paris’.
