ZHANGYE Makes His Debut With Amazing 2-Track EP ‘When I Was Young’!

Making your debut in the dance music scene can be a daunting task as making that pressure to deliver the perfect first impression takes control of many artists and their thoughts. Taking that pressure and thriving on it, ZHANGYE kicks off 2022 in style as he makes his debut in a spectacular way as he unleashes a 2-track EP titled ‘When I Was Young’, showcasing his versatility as a newcomer.

ZHANGYE brings energy and euphoria with the title track ‘When I Was Young’ whilst also bringing us an indie song titled ‘Float Along’. Taking inspiration from the mainstage in terms of power and style but injecting the single with a dose of euphoria, ‘When I Was Young’ is the perfect floor filler and the vocals Julia Ross top the single off perfectly. ‘Float Along’ then comes next as the vibe is switched but the combination of both progressive house and melancholic indie styles make for a truly unique match, lending ZHANGYE more marks for thinking outside the box.

The lyrics of ‘When I Was Young’ were also written by ZHANGYE. Coupled with his daytime identity as an accomplished venture capitalist, the song is dedicated to all those boys and girls who once had a dream and believed that they had a calling for achievements when young, it is also a tribute to all entrepreneurs and their spirit.

Determined to make a lasting first impression, ZHANGYE has done just that as we are truly blown away with this debut EP and we can’t wait to hear what else he’s got coming in 2022.

Being both a venture investor and a composing artist, ZHANGYE carries attributes of the two identities. The experience of studying classical music composition in Russia for over 10 years, not only gave him academic and systematic training in composition but also cultivated his aesthetic and artistic view of the world. Graduated with high distinction (or the “red diploma”) in Russia, ZHANGYE won the International Composition Competition named after Sergei Prokofiev. He was the first Chinese person to ever win that prize.

However, after graduation, he did not pursue a career in music but became a venture investor. In just a few years’ time, he and his team have been recognized as one of the first-tier early-stage investment managers in China. The influence of music and artistic accomplishment gave him a different aesthetic perspective from other investors, making him and Cyanhill Capital a unique existence in the venture capital industry. While being very well accomplished in his career in investment, ZHANGYE has always held music close to his heart. He’s quite fond of electronic music in recent years and has been performing as a DJ as well as producing electronic music in his spare time. Different from other artists, the recent years of investment experiences have allowed him to form a more comprehensive and broader view of the world. His music often carries a deeper expression of connotation and humanistic care. He believes that music shall be used to inspire and comfort people who are confused in a difficult situation so that they can regain their confidence and enthusiasm, persevere in what they love, and move forward courageously.
