As someone who’s attended numerous music festivals around the world, my experience at the first-ever EDC Thailand, held from January 17-19, 2025, at Boat Avenue in Phuket, was nothing short of spectacular. I’d heard countless stories from those who attended EDC Las Vegas editions, but nothing could prepare me for the energy and scale of this inaugural event in Thailand.
The Festival Setup: A Visual Feast of Color and Energy
The EDC Thailand 2025 setup was nothing short of spectacular. The mainstage, known as Kinetic Field, was a true centerpiece, bringing back the iconic Kinetic Goddess from previous EDC Vegas editions. The massive stage was beautifully designed, filled with intricate details that made it feel larger than life. Each day, the crowd was treated to incredible fireworks shows, but the highlight came on the final night with a 6-minute spectacle that left the entire venue in awe. The firework display, timed perfectly with the beats, created a striking moment hat captured the essence of what Electric Daisy Carnival is all about: pure, unbridled celebration.
Beyond the main stage, the festival grounds were adorned with various carnival vibes, adding an extra layer of fun and excitement to the experience. A towering Ferris wheel spun above the crowd, offering a bird’s-eye view of the entire event. Nearby, a merry-go-round provided a playful, nostalgic touch, while dancers on stilts roamed the grounds, creating a whimsical atmosphere. At the entrance, dancers playing instruments welcomed attendees, setting the tone for the adventure ahead. These carnival elements made EDC Thailand feel like more than just a music festival, it became a true celebration of culture, fun, and togetherness.
The Music: A Dynamic Mix for Every Taste
The musical lineup at EDC Thailand 2025 was a major highlight of the festival. Each day, the lineup featured a mix of global superstars and rising talents across 5 stages: Kinetic Field, stereoBloom, circuitGround, Bionic Jungle and Boombox Art Car, ensuring that festival-goers were treated to a diverse range of electronic music. While I personally enjoyed performances from Crankdat, Subtronics, Wooli, Rooler, Mish, Hugel, Indo Warehouse (Kahani vs Kunal Merchant), Yellow Claw, Afrojack, R3HAB, The Chainsmokers, and Illenium, it was clear that every act had something special to offer.
Each day’s festival experience was capped off with huge performances that closed out Kinetic Field in spectacular fashion. On the first night, Tiesto took the stage with his iconic blend of progressive house and trance, keeping the crowd hyped until the very end.
Skrillex‘s set on day two was literally fire, with his mind-blowing dubstep drops and unmatched energy igniting the crowd.
The final night saw The Chainsmokers bring a wave of nostalgia with their 2012-2013 hits, taking us back to the golden era of their music, while also keeping things fresh with their newer tracks. Their set was the perfect blend of past and present, leaving everyone buzzing long after they left the stage.
Beyond the headliners, EDC Thailand 2025 offered a fantastic mix of genres and moments to cherish. Rooler, making his first appearance in Thailand, delivered an intense hardstyle set that had the crowd jumping from start to finish. Mish, also bringing hardstyle to the stage, closed out stereoBloom on day one, leaving the crowd hyped up and ready for more. Hugel brought Afro house to day two on StereoBloom, offering a smooth yet powerful groove that got everyone moving. Subtronics took over circuitGround on day one with a spectacular set that was literally fire, capping off the stage with heavy bass drops that echoed through the crowd.
Afrojack and R3HAB brought a sense of nostalgia with their sets, each offering a throwback to the golden era of their music while blending in their newer hits. It was a trip down memory lane for many, especially those who’ve followed their careers for years. But for me, the emotional highlight of the weekend came during Illenium’s set. The atmosphere shifted as he played “All That Really Matters,” a track that got me and my friends deeply emotional. There’s something about the way Illenium crafts his sets that draws people in on a personal level. It was a moment that captured the power of music to connect us all. The vibe at EDC Thailand, in general, was all about togetherness. People from different cultures and backgrounds came together to celebrate music, and it felt like one big, unified community, lost in the beats and the shared experience.
Crowd and Atmosphere: A Global Celebration of Music
One of the most exciting aspects of EDC Thailand 2025 was the incredible diversity of the crowd. Over 60% of attendees were from outside Thailand, with festival-goers traveling from all over Southeast Asia, Europe, and beyond. This created a multicultural atmosphere, bringing together people from different walks of life with one common goal: to enjoy and celebrate electronic dance music. The sense of unity was palpable as everyone seemed to embrace the shared experience, whether they were longtime fans of EDM or newcomers to the festival scene.
The vibe at the festival was filled with energy and positivity. It wasn’t just about the music. It was about the community. From the moment you walked through the gates, you could feel the excitement in the air. The festival grounds were filled with colorful totems, many of which were created by festival-goers to stand out in the crowd. These totems, often adorned with quirky messages or oversized designs, acted as personal beacons, helping friends find each other in the sea of people. They also added a fun, playful element to the festival’s atmosphere, contributing to the overall sense of creativity and individuality that’s so unique to EDC.Every corner of the festival seemed to have something special. Whether it was the elaborate outfits worn by attendees, the vibrant flags and banners waving in the breeze, or the performers on stilts greeting festival-goers, EDC Thailand was a visual feast. The diversity of the crowd, combined with the playful spirit of the festival, made it feel like one big global celebration. There were people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences, but when the music started, we all became one. The unity and joy were widespread, and it’s hard to imagine any other event that could bring such a wide variety of people together in such an uplifting way.
Final Thoughts: EDC Thailand Sets a New Standard
Looking back at EDC Thailand 2025, I can confidently say that this first edition exceeded all my expectations. From the incredible production and attention to detail to the dynamic range of artists and genres, the event set a new standard for music festivals in Asia. It’s clear that EDC’s commitment to providing a world-class experience for festival-goers, regardless of where they are in the world, is alive and well in Thailand.
The festival brought together not just the music, but a diverse and enthusiastic crowd, creating an atmosphere of unity that’s rare to find. The combination of world-class performances, a vibrant crowd, the carnival vibe, and the stunning visuals made EDC Thailand 2025 feel like something truly special. Whether it was the nostalgia of artists like Afrojack and R3HAB, the emotional connection during Illenium’s set, or the sheer excitement of new experiences like Rooler’s hardstyle debut, it was an event that had something for everyone.
As electronic music continues to grow in popularity across Asia, it’s exciting to think about the future of EDC Thailand. I’m already looking forward to the next edition, knowing it will be even bigger, better, and more unforgettable than the first. EDC Thailand has not only made a mark on the music festival scene but has also contributed to the growing cultural significance of electronic music in Asia.
