Hey HUGEL, thanks for chatting with us. How are you doing today?
Super chilled! I actually moved to Miami which is like a childhood dream for me. The vibe is always on in Miami.
Let’s kick things off ‘Morenita’ and with your recent releases. How has it been to see such an overwhelmingly positive response to your music?
I think I really found my sound since Morenita with these Latin House vibes. I’m really happy to see people from all over the world connecting with it. I do feel that this is a great accomplishment, but I also know that there is still so much more I can do – so I can’t wait to explore that.
You’ve now released a whopping 9 new singles in just 9 months, how do you keep up such a high output along with your touring schedule?
Well anytime I’ve got a delay at the airport, I start working on a new track on my laptop, and as we’ve had lots of delays I’ve had lots of opportunities to work on new music. I find it easy to work anywhere, really. I get sucked into this realm that almost hypnotises me. It also helps that I have a tonne of passion for what I do.
Your touring schedule saw you perform at the incredible FIVE Palm Jumeirah in Dubai and FIVE Zurich in Switzerland, how was your set and the crowd that night?
FIVE attracts a global audience under one musical roof. The Vibe is off the charts in both Dubai and Zurich! The crowd really connected with my groove and it was beautiful to see people going crazy. I really hope that I get to play there again because it was so memorable.
A place like no other, what were your first impressions of FIVE Palm Jumeirah and everything it had to offer?
The first thing that impressed me was the view from my room’s balcony, which watches over the ocean and the Dubai Marina skyline. It was truly breathtaking. I also really enjoyed their dining concept restaurants (Cinque in particular!), the Social Pool, the private beach (Beach by FIVE), and of course the Penthouse Dubai lounge, bar, restaurant and club… FIVE is not only a great place to have fun, but it’s really an all-in-one destination. I can understand why even people who live in Dubai check in over the weekends. I would too!
FIVE recently opened in Zurich, bringing with them some award-winning concepts like The Penthouse and Maiden Shanghai. How was your experience playing at FIVE Zurich?
It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced! I like the intimate and luxurious feeling of The Penthouse Zurich right up on the rooftop – you get this insane view of the city of Zurich and it’s mindblowing. I had a great time playing there and experiencing the FIVE’s newest hotel. The atmosphere was amazing, super high energy and a fantastic crowd. You can bet that I’ll be back because of the things I mentioned, but mostly because of the food at Maiden Shanghai Zurich!
How does it feel to be playing your music in front of international crowds and what has the response to your music been at these shows?
It’s incredible for me as a French guy to perform in a place like America – it’s always been a dream. Americans are actually one of the best crowds in the world. They really know how to party and they bring so much energy. From where I stand, it always looks like they respond well and that’s all I need to boost the atmosphere.
With so many releases this year already, what’s the rest of 2023 looking like?
Honestly, I don’t really think about it too much and I don’t really apply much pressure on myself. I just keep producing and releasing new music. I have so many tracks I’m in love with, and I just want to release them all at once – but yes, the timing has to be 100% right.
Do you have any goals for 2023 and beyond?
My goal is to become one of the biggest DJs in the world and to keep touring all over the world, from America to Europe, The Middle East, and Asia, as well as to release even more hits. Perhaps one of the tunes I’ve been working on at airports will make it big out there.
