When two of Australia’s most beloved dance music acts join forces, you can bet your bottom dollar that something amazing is coming your way. Bridging the gap between their respective styles, trance icon MaRLo and Grammy-nominated electronic music duo Feenixpawl came up with a ludicrously exciting effort that might just turn the scene on its head ‘Lighter Than Air’.
Premiered at both ASOT 900 in Utrecht and Tomorrowland Winter by Armin van Buuren, ‘Lighter Than Air’ has all the hallmarks of true trance anthem. Adorned with a cinematic, vocal-led breakdown, mighty melodies and a floor-cracking drop, this song is where the respective worlds of MaRLo and Feenixpawl collide.
MaRLo: “The first time I heard the initial demo vocal of ‘Lighter Than Air’, it truly touched my soul. The vocal is so emotive and powerful, and we just had to figure out a way to make it work on the dance floor as well. It was an absolute pleasure working with the Feenixpawl guys on this. They are not only amazing artists, but they have also become great friends of mine over the years. Nothing but love!”
Feenixpawl: “We first met MaRLo at Stereosonic Festival in Australia in 2012 and we just hit it off straight away. We spent the whole tour hanging out, and have been close friends ever since. To be honest, we never ever discussed doing a collaboration during that time, until the day we heard the vocals for ‘Lighter Than Air’. As soon as we found this vocal, we just knew it was perfect to work on with MaRLo, and as soon as he heard it, he felt the same way. It’s simply magical, and after a year of working on it and going back and forth, we’re finally ready to share the magic with the world! And we could not be more excited about it!”
MaRLo is one of Australia’s most iconic trance artists, ranking #1 overall in Australia’s prestigious inthemix DJ poll while charting in the DJ Mag Top 100 three times. Throughout the years, he has become well-known in and beyond the trance scene for highly-acclaimed classics such as ‘Visions’, ‘Haunted’ and ‘Hold It Together’, more recent speaker busters such as ‘Space Journey’, ‘Enough Echo’, ‘You And Me’ and ‘Here We Are’, and a host of seismic live sets at the world’s biggest festivals, including Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival and the main stage of Tomorrowland.
Grammy nominees, DJ globetrotters and remixers to the likes of Jess Glynne, Kaskade, NERVO, Nicky Romero and Rihanna, Feenixpawl are two of Australia’s most prominent export products. With numerous worlds tours, hundreds of millions of streams and a truckload of awards under their belt, they have secured themselves a spot alongside electronic music’s most prominent taste makers. Their 2012 track ‘In My Mind’ was an outright smash hit and their recent release ‘Neon Sky’ was nominated for an IDMA in the ‘Best Pop/Electronic Song’ category.
