Released 9 Years Ago: DJ SNAKE & Lil Jon – Turn Down For What

Nine years ago, DJ SNAKE and Lil Jon released a track that would become emblematic of an entire genre and movement: ‘Turn Down For What’. Released on December 18, 2013, this high-energy anthem rapidly escalated to viral status, amassing over 1 billion views and becoming one of the most streamed tracks in dance music history. This explosive success propelled DJ SNAKE into the limelight, setting the stage for future hits like ‘Lean On’ and ‘Middle’.

DJ SNAKE, a French producer, has been a pivotal figure in the electronic music scene. His journey to prominence began in 2012 after signing with Diplo‘s Mad Decent label, where he released ‘Bird Machine’ in 2013. However, it was ‘Turn Down for What’, featuring Lil Jon, that catapulted him to fame, becoming the most renowned crossover trap hit since Baauer‘s ‘Harlem Shake’. DJ SNAKE‘s momentum continued through collaborations, including ‘Get Low’ with Dillon Francis and the global smash ‘Lean On’ with and Major Lazer. His debut album ‘Encore’ was released in 2016, featuring hits like ‘Middle’ and ‘Let Me Love You’ featuring Justin Bieber. In 2017, DJ SNAKE marked a historic moment by performing atop the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, a testament to his extraordinary impact on the music industry.
