Steve Aoki confirms he is retiring his iconic cake throwing tradition for good, leaving the EDM community in complete shock.

Steve Aoki has been one of the most recognisable figures in electronic dance music for well over a decade, and not just for his music. The cake throwing has become as iconic as the man himself, a signature moment at every sningle show that fans line up front row hoping to be on the receiving end of. However, in a shocking announcement that has left the dance music world reeling, Steve Aoki has confirmed that he is hanging up the cake tray for good.

In a statement released earlier today, Aoki said, “I’ve thought long and hard about this, and the time has come. The cake era is over. From here on out, it’s just the music.” The announcement sent shockwaves through the EDM community, with fans flooding social media to mourn the end of one of festival culture’s most beloved traditions. Some attendees even claimed they had purchased front row tickets to upcoming shows specifically for the cake, and were demanding refunds.

Sources close to Aoki revealed that the decision came after a particularly messy incident backstage involving a three-tier red velvet cake, a lighting rig, and a rider that shall not be named. Others have speculated that rising flour costs and a recent partnership with a luxury dry cleaning brand may have played a role.

Whatever the reason, it seems the days of being pummeled in the face with sponge cake at an Aoki show are well and truly behind us.

…Just kidding. April Fools. The cake is not a lie, and it never will be. See you at the front row.
