Vintage Culture Talks New Music, Relationship With Spinnin’ Records, Dream Collabs & More!

As Brazil is currently delivering exciting new artists and fresh sounds as steady as the clock, one of these highlights is now officially released on Spinnin’ Deep. It’s a cool, inventive club version of Maverick Sabre‘s 2019 pop hit ‘Slow Down’, delivered by Brazilian tastemakers Vintage Culture and Slow Motion, ready to make waves once again on a global scale! We had the pleasure of interviewing Vintage Culture to celebrate the release of this awesome remix.

Let’s start off with your remix of ‘Slow Down’. How happy are you with the finished product and its home on Spinnin’ Records?
“I’m very proud of this remix. We needed to rise to the occasion and have the instrumental equal the quality of Maverick Sabre’s and Jorja Smith’s vocal performances. Slow Motion ( my collaborator on the remix ) and I spent a lot of time on the vocals- these performances are passionate and emotional. We built the track around these amazing singers while creating an instrumental that would keep the fans moving.”

Under 7 months into 2020 and you’ve already released 7 productions. How do you manage to keep such a high workflow moving?
“This has been one of the most creative periods of my life. I’ve never been more focused on my songwriting and productions. As tours have been paused in 2020, I’ve spent my time developing my craft in the recording studio.  I’ve been working with collaborators from around the world- online / digitally of course. Music has always inspired me, but never more than during this time. I feel that I’m getting closer to my true sound.”

Over the past couple of years, you have cemented yourself as one of the brightest artists on Spinnin’ Records roster. How have you found your time as an artist on the Spinnin’ roster?
“I’ve been with Spinnin for 4 years and my relationship with the label has grown stronger. They respect my creativity and give me the freedom to experiment with new ideas. The A&R team- both at the label and MusicAllStars Publishing- is attuned to my personal taste in songwriting and vocalists. The combined A&R teams at Spinnin’ and MusicAllStars have provided some of the best vocal performances on my tracks and helped me develop relationships with other talented writers.”

With your releases, you have cemented yourself within the deep house/Brazilian bass scene. Is there a certain genre/style that you haven’t released and you’d love to?
“I don’t like to label or limit myself within a specific style. I try to make music without being categorized. This year I’ll do more in the house music genre and expand my sound even further. The songwriting will always come first, no matter the genre. Strong melodies and tracks that make the fans move will always be at the forefront of my sound. “

With multiple collaborations in your career, if you only had 1 collaboration remaining in your career, who would you want it to be with?
“Interesting question, perhaps a collaboration with Depeche Mode or New Order. Two of the groups that inspired me in the very beginning of my career. So I would have come full circle with a final collaboration with one of these legendary artists.”

When it comes to you stepping into the studio and creating a track from scratch, what comes first in your process? the drop, the breakdown, the melody or all of the above.
“There are many exceptions to this rule, but generally a vocal melody inspires me and helps to set the mood for the instrumental. I take great care to build the instrumental around the singer and compliment the vocal performance. A good example of this is George Morgan’s performance on my Billboard Number #1 Dance Club track, ‘In The Dark’. George’s voice jumps out of the speakers. This great singer inspired me to make a track equally exciting and interesting.”

With the cancellation of all shows across the world, how have you found it is to be in/near your studio for most of the day working on or finishing new music?
“In the studio during this period, I’ve created over 40 new original tracks, which are in different stages of productions. Additionally, more remixes are coming up including my remix with Fancy Inc of Robin Schulz new single, “Oxygen.”  I also have a remix on the way of a great Duke Dumont track, an Australian group called, Crooked Colours and several more. “

With this break in performances, what have you enjoyed most about taking time off from touring and what do you miss most about the lack of shows? “What I’ve enjoyed most, outside of the musical advancement that I’ve explained, is time with family, friends, and my dog, Bentin. I’ve had more time to look at the business side of music and get to know more people in these areas – at the labels and publishers.”

Ending the interview, would you like to share any exclusive news with us? 😉
“I’ll be appearing at Tomorrowland’s online festival on July 26th. There are new originals on the way with some of the biggest European producers in our business.  I look forward to seeing the fans as soon as possible on the road. Until then, stay safe and stay healthy.”
