Discovery – Daft Punk

You can’t talk about the best electronic albums of all time without including Daft Punk’s undeniable masterpiece ‘Discovery.’ Daft Punk were always great innovators and ‘Discovery’ was no exception as the albums revolutionary disco inspired house sound took the world by storm. It went to number 2 in the UK, French, and Canadian album charts along with going triple platinum in France in 2007 and being widely praised by critics. Despite being released 24 years ago it doesn’t sound dated which is evident from the fact that there’s still music off this album being played at clubs and festivals all the time. Featuring some of the most iconic songs in electronic music such as ‘One More Time’, ‘Harder Better Faster Stronger’, and ‘Digital Love’, ‘Discovery’ is a hit machine which rightfully earnt its spot in Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time at 236.

True – Avicii

Undoubtably one of the greatest debut albums of all time, ‘True’ stands as Avicii’s crowning achievement earning him worldwide love and recognition for his talent. Despite a lot of early criticism following the unveiling of the contents of the album at Ultra Music Festival 2013, pretty soon after people started to realise the genius of ‘True.’ Featuring amazing songs such as ‘Addicted To You’, ‘Hey Brother’, ‘You Make Me’, and of course ‘Wake Me Up’, the album was a massive success reaching number 1 in the album charts in Australia, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, as well as in the Billboard US Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. ‘True’ earned worldwide acclaim and contains some of Avicii’s finest work with his unbelievable talent for blending the lines between genres on display.

Fat of the Land – The Prodigy

‘Fat of the Land’ is one of those few albums that just doesn’t have any songs you want to skip as The Prodigy were firing on all cylinders from start to finish. Coming off the back of their stunning ‘Music for the Jilted Generation’ album it was a tall order to try outdo themselves yet they found a way. The album kicks off bombastically with the iconic ‘Smack My B***h Up’ followed by ‘Breathe’ which are a couple of The Prodigy’s biggest songs that hook you in instantly. The punches just keep coming with more great tracks like ‘Diesel Power’ and ‘Mindfields’, but the knockout blow comes with the legendary ‘Firestarter.’ The album was particularly popular in the UK as both ‘Breathe’ and ‘Firestarter’ rocketed to number 1 in the charts. ‘Fat of the Land’ gave us the welcome introduction to Keith Flints vocal power, along with giving us a plethora of timeless classics.

18 Months – Calvin Harris

With Calvin Harris it’s incredibly hard to pick just one album to talk about having made great albums the likes of ‘Ready For The Weekend’, ‘Motion’, and ‘96 Months.’ However, the album that features possibly his best work that has stood the test of time has to be ‘18 Months.’ This album features a lot of the biggest artists in the world at the time with appearances from Rihanna, Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal, Example, Ellie Goulding, Ne-Yo, Florence Welch, Kelis, and Ayah Marar. This astronomical lineup of artists working side by side with Calvin Harris could equal only one thing, a goliath of an album. Impressively ‘Feel So Close’, ‘We Found Love’, ‘I Need Your Love’, ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’, and ‘Sweet Nothing’ all hit number 1 in the singles charts in various countries. But it’s ‘We Found Love’ that flew the highest reaching number 1 in 24 different countries.

Forever – Alesso

Diversity in style, chart hits, club bangers, iconic anthems. Not many albums can have all these attributes, so the fact Alesso achieved all of this on ‘Forever’ makes it one of the best electronic albums ever. Ranging from the heavier tracks like ‘Tear The Roof Up’ to the more emotional progressive house anthems like ‘If I Lose Myself’, Alesso displayed his amazing diversity in production skills across the album. ‘Forever’ went to number 1 on the Billboard US Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart while several of the singles had great success in the UK. In the UK Singles Chart ‘Cool’ reached number 10, ‘If I Lose Myself’ reached number 8, ‘Heroes (We Could Be)’ reached number 6, and ‘Under Control’ went all the way to number 1.
