The album is a 12 track strong collection of unorthodox chill gems, all instrumentals, crafted by the Tel Avivian beat maker over the past few years. Every bit of this 29 minute album is carefully built by layering and slicing intriguing samples, synth programming and laid back beats, spiced up with unusual textures that pushes through his signature sound.
Fortyforty is one of the key artists of the InchPerSecond family, with appearances in all three volumes of the label’s beat collections ‘IPS Collect Beats’. He finally serves an original solo album that showcases his creative thinking, production skills and unique approach to music making.
While ‘Loquats’ really comes across as a whole, it’s hard to put the finger on a single genre that sticks through. The album starts with the hypnotizing beat ‘Fajuli’, guided by a breezy vocal sample that ghostly rides on chill trap elements with a bold and juicy bass line. You can hear some Fly-Lo left field hip-hop inspired grooves in beats like ‘Neworder’ and ‘In The 5ky’ that lay in harmony side by side to some more traditional trip-hop/jazzy vibes in tracks like ‘Miss You’ and ‘Telephone’, reminding us of old school artists like DJ Shadow and Luke Vibert. Keeping an overall chilled down atmosphere throughout the album, Fortyforty manages to twist and surprise, resulting a piece that is great to play in the background of some deep conversations without interfering, but also to dive deep into when given the chance. ‘Loquats’ is available right now on all streaming services and online stores.
