When the gates of Tomorrowland Belgium opened on Friday, July 18th, 2025, few could have imagined the extraordinary circumstances behind that moment. Just 48 hours earlier, disaster had struck. The iconic Mainstage was destroyed in a devastating fire during pyrotechnics testing. What followed was nothing short of miraculous.

In an unprecedented act of solidarity, Metallica came to the rescue. They offered stage components from their M72 World Tour, which were stored in Austria. The pieces were airlifted to Belgium overnight. This unlikely collaboration between heavy metal legends and the world’s leading electronic festival showed how music can unite artists across genres.

Rebuilding the Mainstage became a masterclass in event production under pressure. The Tomorrowland crew worked nonstop to clear debris and build a stunning new LED-centric design. By 16:00 on Friday, the stage was ready, complete with pyrotechnics and fireworks. NERVO opened the festival, shouting, “We made it!” as they took to the rebuilt Mainstage.

The Australian duo even captured behind-the-scenes footage. Crew members were seen hanging from ropes, adjusting stage elements in real time as artists performed. It was a powerful display of dedication that far exceeded expectations.

What rose from the ashes that weekend might be the most inspiring Tomorrowland Weekend One in history. It stood as a symbol of resilience, collaboration, and the unbreakable spirit of the global electronic music community.

Sixteen Magical Stages

Tomorrowland Weekend One 2025 showed once again why it’s the world’s most iconic electronic music festival. It featured sixteen unique stages, each one worthy of its own event. From dubstep to uptempo, from Afro house to psytrance, every subgenre had a home. There was truly something for everyone.

This year brought exciting redesigns to two beloved stages. The Freedom stage underwent a major transformation. Its signature butterfly ceiling was removed and replaced with advanced LED screens on the sides. Moreover, venue delivered an immersive 360-degree sound experience, running 2–3 decibels lower than traditional systems. The result was an intimate yet powerful acoustic environment that felt like a world-class nightclub.

The Great Library also received a stunning makeover. Gone were the book-lined walls, though one paid tribute to Avicii, which I loved. Instead, the new design featured a taller, palace-like structure. Three massive LED screens spanned the stage, creating a more dramatic and visually stunning setting.

A few fun facts here about the stages. The Rise stage was the first at Tomorrowland to feature full surround sound. The massive CORE stage is inflatable and fits in standard shipping containers for transport (for example to Colombia). Most impressive was the Crystal Garden, now the world’s largest floating stage. It was so massive it comfortably hosted one of the weekend’s biggest performances—Axwell b2b Steve Angello b2b Sebastian Ingrosso.

Sustainability Meets Gastronomy

Tomorrowland introduced a smart, sustainable cup system this year. It combined environmental responsibility with clever tech integration.

The system worked in three steps. Guests paid a one Pearl deposit (about €1.82 or $2.13) for each drink cup. Every cup had a chip linked to your cashless bracelet or card. Once finished, you returned the cup to a nearby station—located next to every bar. The system scanned the chip and refunded the deposit, but only if the cup was returned.

This cut down on single-use waste, prevented cups from becoming safety hazards, and kept the cashless system seamless.

Sustainability didn’t stop there. In a move that went mostly unnoticed, this year’s signature Tomorrowland burger was vegetarian. It was a subtle but powerful message about sustainability. Sorry meat lovers!

A Culinary Journey That Feels Like a Vacation

What sets Tomorrowland apart is how it blends music with a resort-like atmosphere. At most festivals, food means grabbing a soggy hotdog and sitting on grass. Not here. You can relax in thoughtfully designed spaces and enjoy a proper meal.

Every year, the festival expands its culinary offerings. This year, Belgian Classics Restaurant became my favorite food spot. I was welcomed with champagne, followed by beef tartare, a rich stew, and fresh strawberries with a popsicle for dessert. The prix fixe menu was a true celebration of Belgian cuisine.

Other food highlights? The Korean fried chicken was phenomenal. Like everyone else, I contributed to the 5,000 tons of Belgian fries eaten over the two weekends. And after dancing hard at the Freedom stage, I always head for dim sum, it never disappoints.

For rosé lovers like me, Sola Vida is essential. It took Tomorrowland five years to get it right. That’s just how they do things, they take their time to deliver excellence.

Musical Moments That Defined the Weekend

The music this year felt extra emotional. The week’s dramatic events gave everything a deeper sense of gratitude. It reminded me of the 2022 post-pandemic reopening vibe. Everyone—artists and fans—was just thankful to be there.

Throughout the weekend, artists gave shoutouts to the Tomorrowland crew. Performances felt more intense, more heartfelt. You could feel the love and recognition everywhere.

Charlotte de Witte made history by both opening and closing the rebuilt Mainstage on Saturday. Her morning set was melodic and dreamy. That night, she returned with harder techno and psy-trance for a full-circle journey.

The most anticipated set was Axwell b2b Sebastian Ingrosso b2b Steve Angello at Crystal Garden. Unlike last year, when they closed the Mainstage, this time it was more intimate. They played for nearly three hours, mixing individual styles with Swedish House Mafia classics. I was afraid to leave—I didn’t want to miss a second. The crowd went wild for “Redlight,” “Teenage Crime,” “Antidote,” and “Miami 2 Ibiza.”

Laidback Luke brought the nostalgia with his Super You & Me superhero set. He turned Planaxis into a celebration of EDM history with back-to-back performances from Sander van Doorn, Dannic, Firebeatz, Yves V, and more. It was an explosion of classics like “Levels,” “Pump Up the Jam,” and “Leave the World Behind.”

Symphony of Unity & The Avicii Experience

Two performances stood out for their emotional depth. The Symphony of Unity featured a full orchestra performing iconic dance tracks with live singers. It blurred genre lines and touched everyone in the audience. Their debut album drops later this year, following four performances during both festival weekends.

Equally moving was the Avicii Tribute. I never saw him live at Tomorrowland, so watching his sets projected in Dolby Atmos meant a lot. Everyone sang along, and many—myself included—were in tears. My only wish? That it had lasted longer. It featured only his major hits and ran for about ten minutes. Still, it was a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to one of EDM’s true pioneers.

The Tomorrowland Spirit Lives On

Having attended three years in a row, I can say this was the best vibe yet. Tomorrowland’s ability to unite people from every corner of the world has never felt stronger.

There’s always more to explore. Specifically, I still haven’t ridden the Ferris wheel! Every path hides a surprise. Certainly, whether it’s a pop-up performance or an impromptu party, you never know what moment will define your weekend.

Tomorrowland 2025 won’t be remembered for a fire. Undeniably, it’ll be remembered for what rose from it—resilience, creativity, unity. When faced with disaster, the result wasn’t cancellation. It was a deeper celebration of what Tomorrowland stands for.

In the end, the festival didn’t just survive. It came back even stronger, proving once again why it’s the ultimate destination for dance music lovers.
