RÜFÜS DU SOL set highest-grossing electronic tour record as Inhale / Exhale earns $158 million with 1.7 million tickets sold across four continents

For an electronic act that first formed in Sydney in 2010, RÜFÜS DU SOL have spent more than a decade growing their live show into one of the biggest touring stories in dance music. Their Inhale / Exhale World Tour has now become the highest-grossing electronic tour in Billboard Boxscore history, earning $158 million from 1.7 million tickets across four continents. The 18-month run ended at Rogers Centre in Toronto, where around 43,500 attendees watched the final show. It also became the first electronic tour to pass both $100 million in gross and 1 million tickets sold, closing the biggest live chapter of the trio’s career so far.

How Inhale / Exhale Set a New Touring Benchmark

Across 18 months, the Inhale / Exhale World Tour took RÜFÜS DU SOL through North America, Europe, Oceania and Latin America, with nearly 100 shows across four continents. By the end of the run, the tour had earned $158 million and sold 1.7 million tickets, setting new Billboard Boxscore records for an electronic act. The final North American leg accounted for $71.8 million across 31 dates, with 693,000 tickets sold during that stretch alone.

Twelve years after playing to roughly 350 people in Toronto, RÜFÜS DU SOL returned to the city for the final Inhale / Exhale show at Rogers Centre. Around 43,500 attendees filled the stadium on September 5, 2026, with the night bringing in close to $5 million. Ending the tour there gave the final show a powerful sense of perspective on how much their live career had changed since that first Toronto appearance.

With the final night closing the 18-month run, Inhale / Exhale had also crossed two thresholds no electronic tour had passed before. It became the first to exceed $100 million in gross and 1 million tickets sold. The latest figures take RÜFÜS DU SOL’s career total to around $173.7 million and 1.9 million tickets, placing them first among electronic acts tracked by Billboard Boxscore for both career revenue and attendance.

The Career Behind the Record

Back in Sydney in 2010, Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George and James Hunt started what would eventually become RÜFÜS DU SOL. Albums including Atlas, Bloom, Solace and Surrender helped grow their audience outside Australia, while tracks such as Innerbloom, You Were Right, Alive and Next to Me became central to their catalogue. Their fifth album, Inhale / Exhale, then became the project behind the largest live era of their career.

From those earlier releases, the trio developed a live format centered on vocals, drums, keyboards and electronic production. That approach has remained a major part of how RÜFÜS DU SOL present their music on stage, even as the venues have grown considerably. During the Inhale / Exhale era, they played venues including Rose Bowl Stadium, Q2 Stadium, Red Bull Arena and Rogers Centre, while their Australian dates included three sold-out nights at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

The next dates already point beyond the world tour itself. RÜFÜS DU SOL remain scheduled for Austin City Limits in October, so the Toronto finale marked the end of the Inhale / Exhale World Tour rather than their full 2026 live calendar. The trio have also spoken previously about wanting studio time once touring eases, with Jon George and James Hunt both discussing a return to writing after the long tour cycle.

After 18 months and nearly 100 shows, Inhale / Exhale closes with numbers no electronic tour had posted before. Austin City Limits still lies ahead, while future studio time has already been discussed. For RÜFÜS DU SOL, the record therefore closes one era while leaving the next one open.
